APPAREL I GARMENT.
Application filed November 21,1922 Serial No. 602,325.
To all whom it may concern."
Be it known that I, WALDEMAR Kors, a citizen of the United States, residing in the borough of Manhattan, city, county, and State of New York, have invented an Improvement in Apparel Garments, of which the following'is a specification.
My present invention relates to an imgarments and more particularly to that type of apparel garments shown and described in my copending application, Serial No. 554,521, filed April 18, 1922, and in which the garment comprises a bust supportin and confining member, a hip, thigh and ab omen confining and supporting member, together with means for adjusting these members of the garment to position on the body so as to function as a combined under vest, brassiere and corset. In the present lnstance, how-' ever, in addition to these features and functions, one'of the members of the garment, preferably the hip, thigh and abdomen confining and supporting member, includes an additional garmentin the form of knickerbockers or knickers or drawers attached to and depending from the hip, thigh and abdomen confining and supporting member so as to surround the upper portions of the limbs of the wearer, the garment consequently performing the function of four garments instead of three, namely an undervest, bust supporter or brassiere, corset and drawers, and the garment made in accordance with my present invention will be hereinafter more particularly described in conjunction with theaccompanying drawings, in which,--
Fig. 1 is a perspective of the garment made in accordance with this invention.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the outer portions of the garment shown in a flattened or extended position, and I Fig. 3 .is an enlarged front elevation showing the positions the parts of the garment assume when in place on the body of the wearer.
In the practice of the invention as hereinbefore stated I employ a bust supporting and confining member, a hip, thigh and abdomen confining and supporting member and the knickers or drawers attached to the 7 hip, thigh and abdomen confining member,
from substantially the bust to the thighs and those portions of the limbs within the knickers so that the garment answers the purposeof a combined undervest, brassiere, corset and drawers. Referring particularlyto, the drawing, the bust supporting and confining member may be so constructed as to comprise a centralfront section 10, side sections 11 and 12, and end sections 13 and 14. The side section. 1 1 is connected to the front section 10 along a line of stitching 15, the side section 12 is connected to the front section 10 along a line of stitching 16, While the end section 13 is connected to the side section 11 along a line of stitching 17, and the end section 14. is connected to the side section 12 along a line of stitching indicated at 18. At the free end the endmember 13 is provided with a reinforcing strip, 19to which is attached a connectinmstrap 20 having eyelets free ends the end member 14: is provided with a reinforcing 'strip22 to which is suitablysecured a book 23. Depending therefrom in' a central position the lower edge" 21 therein. simil arly at the a tape2l provided with a hook 25 adapted to be connected to the overlying portion of the other member of the garment, as hereinafter described to maintain the relative positions of these overlaping portions of the garment. This bust supporting and confining member in this form of the invention is adapted toyextend around the body from the frontto the back and to be adjustably connected in position 23 in any of the eyelets 21 as will now be understood.
The hip, thigh and abdomen supporting and confining member as illustrated may be so constructed as to include back sections 26 and 27 connected along a line of stitching 28, side sections 29 and 30, the side section 29 being connected to the back section 26 along a line of stitching 31 and the side section 30 being connected to theback section 27 along a line of stitching 32, and also front sections 33 and 34, the front section 38 beingconnectedto the side section 29 along a line of stitching 35, while the front section 34 is connected to the side section 30 along a line of stitching36. The front or forward edge of the front section38 is proby engaging the hook the front or forward edge of the front section 34 is provided with a reinforcing strip 39 in which there is a corresponding series of eyelets this hip, thigh and abdomen confining member is passed around the body from the back to the front and adjusted to position by the use of a lace 40' threaded through eyelets 36 and 40, with the lower front portion of the bust supporting and confining member lying under the upper front ortions of the hip, thigh and abdomen con ning and supporting member so that these members of the garment as in other forms of the invention for instance as described in my copen ing application as aforesaid, completely cover the body from the bust to the thighs. Furthermore, as in similar forms of the garment, these members may be connected by suitable shoulder straps 41 and 42.
As clearly illustrated in the drawing, the lower edge 43 of the front section 38 is preferably tapered and the lower edge of the side section 29 is preferably cut away along a curved line 44 so as to cause the garment to conform to the underlying portion-of the body of the wearer, and the pointed section at the lower edge of these members of the garment may be at 45 and a hose supporter 46 connected thereto at this point. Similarly the lower edge of the front member 34 is tapered as indicated at 47 and the lower edge of the side member 30 is curved as indicated at 48, while the point at the lower edge at the junction of these members is reinforced at 49 and provided with a hose supporter 50. In suitable positions I may also employ hose supporters 51 and 52 attached to and dependin from the lower edge portions of the bac members 26 and 27.
In conjunction with the hip, thigh and abdomen member as hereinbefore described, I also employ additional members depend ing therefrom in the nature of knickers or drawers. These members are similarly constructed and each preferably comprises two sections of material. The left knicker or drawers leg is made of a front section 53 and a back section 54. The front section is adapted to extend and lie over the forward portion of the limb and the back section to extend and overlie the back portion of the limb and one vertical edge of the front section is connected to the adjacent vertical edge of the back section along a line of stitching 55 which is adapted to lie at the inner portion of the limb, while the other vertical edge of the front section is connected to the adjacent edge of the back section along a line 56 which lies over the outer central portion of the limb. At its upper edge the front section is connected to the lower edge of the front section 33 and the side section 29 from the point 57 to the 40. In the use of the garment,
reinforced as indicated,
point 58 and the upper edge of the back section 54 is connected to the lower edge of the back section 26 from the point 58 to the point 59 so that the portions of the drawers legs member are connected to the lower edge of the hip, thigh and abdomen supporting and confining member from the point 57 to the point 59 so that the outer portion of the drawers legs is that which is connected to this member of the garment, while the inner portion of the drawers leg is disconnected therewith as indicated by the dotted line 60 extending from the point 57 to the point 59. Similarly the right knicker or drawers leg member comprises two sectinons indicated at 61 and 62, 61 being the front section and 62 the back section. The side vertical edges of these sections are connected at 63 and 64, the former adapted to overlie the outer portion of the limb and the latter. the inner portion of the limb, while the upper edge of the front section 61 is connected to the lower edges of the sections 34 and 30 from the point 65 to the point 66 and the upper edge of the back section is conncted to the lower edge of the section 27 from the point 66 to the point 59, these being the outer upper edges of the drawers leg member, while the upper inner edges thereof are unconnected to the hip, thigh and abdomen confining and supporting member along the line 67 extending from the point 65 to the point 59.
I claim as my invention: a
1. An apparel garment comprising a bust member adapted to extend around the body and to be secured in position thereon, a hip, thigh and abdomen member also adapted to extend around the body and to be adjusted to position thereon, the said members completely covering the body from substantially the bust to the thighs and the lower edge of the hip, thigh and abdominal member being similarly cut away at-tlie front thereof and also at the sides to conform to the upper side portions of the limbs of the wearer and to provide V-shaped sections in the lower edge of the said hip, thigh and abdominal member which lie approximately over the front central portions of the limbs of the wearer, and drawers members connected at their upper edges to the said lower edges of the hip, thigh and abdominal member.
