APPAREL GARMENT.

My present invention relates to an apparel garment of the combined corset brassiere type in which there is an abdominal support strap employed. In carrying out the invention the garment is so constructed as to be adjusted to position, on the body of the wearer without the employment of customary lacing devices and to yieldingly fit the body to provide for a freedom of movement and at the same time to provide for the necessary sup port particularly for the support of the abdomen. The garment is so constructed that the elastic members employed in the body of the garment and also in the abdominal support strap cooperate to produce these results as will be hereinafter more particularly described.

In the drawing Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating the use of the garment made in accordance with this invention.

The garment made in accordance with this invention comprises a front member, a back member, together with side membersand an abdominal support strap. The front member preferably includes a front section and lateral sections 11 and 12. The front section 10 in the lower central portion thereof may be fitted with a'gore section 10 of elastic material. The front member also includes a top or upper section 13 which circumferentially of the garment is substantially coextensive with the front and lateral sections of the front member and may be made of a suitable knitted fabric so as to conform to the busts of the wearer to support or to assist in supporting the same. To this end-the top section 13 in suitable positionsmay be provided with darts as indicated at 13'. The upper edges of the central section 10 and the lateral sections 11 and 12 of the front member are preferably curved upwardly as-ind cated at 14 and 15 to a substantially central portion of the upper edge as indicated at 16. The top section 13 extends appreciably below the upper edges of the other sections of the front member and terminates at a line indicated at 17 along which the lower edge of this top section is suitably connected to the other sections of the front member.

The lateral section 11 as illustrated is connected to the central section 10 by the use of a suitable binding tape and lines of stiffening as indicated at 18, and similarly the lateral section 12 is connected to the central section 10 by a reinforcing tape and a suitable line of stitching as indicated at 19.

The back member also preferably consists of a central section 20 and lateral sections 21 and,22. These may be suitably connected to each-other longitudinally of the garment and fitted with stays 23 in the usual manner. The side sections are similarly constructed and each of them preferablycomprises three sections, The right hand side member consists of an upper section 24 and lower sections 25 and 26. The sections 24 and 26 are made of any suitable inelastic material while the section 25 is made of any suitable elastic material. At the lower end of the section 24 and at the upper ends of the ' sections 25 and 26 there are preferably employed re- 7 inforcing strips 27 which extend downwardly from the back member to the front member in such a position that the upper.edge of these reinforcing strips is in substantially the same position longitudinally of the garment as the adjacent extremities of the sections of the front member. Similarly the left hand side member comprises a top or upper section 28 and lower sections 29 and 30. The sections 28 and 30 are made of inelastic material and the sections 29 of a suitable elastic material. Between the lower edge of the section 28 and the upper edges of the sections 29 and 30 there are reinforcing strips 31 which are the complements of the reinforcing strips 27. w i

One edge of the back member is connected to the adjacent edges of the upper section 24 and the lower section 26 of the right hand side member by suitable lines of stitching 32. Along this edge there is also preferably secured in the garment a stay as indicated at 33. The section 26 of this side member is connectedto the section 25 thereof by a suitable reinforcing tape and lines of stitching as indicated at 34. position the garment is provided with a stat 38 which is similar to the stay 33, The forward edge of the section 30 of this side member of the garment is connected to the elastic section 29 thereof by a reinforcing tape and suitable lines of stitching as indicated at 39. In this portion of the garment there is a stay 40 which is the complement of the stay 35.

The free edge of the front member is provided with a reinforcing strip 42 to which in suitably spaced positions there is secured a series of hooks 48. In like manner the free edges of the sections 28 and 29of the left hand front member are provided with a reinforcing strip 44 connected to which is a corresponding series of eyes 45, each eye 45 being adapted to be engaged by one of the hooks 43 in securing the garment in position on the body of the wearer. I

The abdominal strap or support preferably includes a front member 46 in which in suitable positions there are stays 47, 48 and 49.. The stays 47 and 48 extend from the upper edge of the front section 46 appreciable distances downward and the stay 49 extends from the lower edge of this front member appreciable distances upwards and the lower portion of this stay 49 is preferably curved so as to more readily conform and cause the lower portions of the front member 46 to conform to the abdomen of the wearer. The abdominal strap or support also includes anchor straps and yielding connecting straps extending between the same and the front member of the abdominal support. In the right hand side of the garment an anchor strap is indicated at 50 and the connecting tension straps at 51 and 52. The rearward edge of the anchor strap 50 is connected to the lower section 26 of the right hand side member in the lines of stitching 34 which connect the same to the elastic'section 25. Theopposite edge of the anchor strap 50 is connected to the rearward edges of the tension straps 51 and 52 along a line of stitching indicated at 52, while the forward ends of the tension straps are connected to the adjacent edge of the front member 46 along suitable lines ofstitching indicated at 53. In a similar manner in the left hand side of the garment there is an anchor strap 54 which along itsrearward edge is connected to the section 30 of the side member along the sameline of stitching 39 which connects the section 29 thereto. At its forward edge the anchor strap 54 is connected to theadjacent edges of tension straps 55- and 56 along a line of stitching indicated at 57. The upper tension straps 51 and 55 incline downwardly toward the anchor straps and the lower tension straps 52 and 56 incline upwardly to the anchor straps, and the central portions of these tension straps overlie each other to an appreciable extent. The free edge of the front member 46 of the abdominal support is provided with a reinforcing strip 58 in which there is secured in suitable spaced positions a series of hooks 59. Similarly the free ends of the tension straps 55 and 56 are provided with a reinforcing strip 60 in which there is secured in correspondingly' spaced positions a series of eyes 61 each of which is adapted to be engaged by one of the hooks 59 in securing the abdominal support in position on the body of the wearer.

The front members of the garment are provided with suitable hose supporters. These preferably depend both from the front member of the garment and the front member of the abdominal support. As illustrated, the hose supporter 62 is connected at one end to the lower edge of the front member of the abdominal support as indicated at 63, and at the other end to the lower edge of the front member of the garment as indicated at 64. This hose supporter is provided with a slip loop 65 to which the hose supporter attachment 66 is connected. The hose supporter is preferably made of two parts connected as indicated at 67 which not only o1ns these parts to one another but also determines the limit of movement of the slip loop 65 in one direction because the oint Wlll not pass through the eye of the loop. The other hose supporter indicated at 68 at one end is connected to the lower edge of the front member of the abdominal support as indicated at 69, while at the other end it is connected to the lower edge of the front member of the garment as indicated at 70; This hose supporter is also provided with a slip loop 71 to which a hose supporter attachment 72 is connected. Like the hose supporter 62. the hose supporter 68 ls'also preferably made in two parts connected as indicated at 73 whichnot only Joins the parts but also for like reasons acts as a stop to limit the movement of the slip loop 71.. It will be understood of course, that to make these hose supporters adjustable, the same if so desired, may be fitted with suitable buckles.-

bers and the same together with the inter It will also be understood that the connection between the parts of the abdominal support are on the left hand side and appreciably forward of the connection between the outer parts of the garment. It will also be readily appreciated that because of the elastic insert. the garment is made to yieldingly fit the body of the wearer, and inasmuch as the anchor straps underlie the adjacent portions of the elastic sectionsof theside members and the tension straps of the abdominal support under-lie the adjacent inelastic sections of the front member, there will be a coaction between these parts causing the garment to fit the bodv and also to provide an adequate but yielding support for the abdomen. Also inasmuch as the tension straps of the abdominal support extend in opposite directions the upper straps will exert a downward tension in the upper portions of the front memberof the abdominal support while the lower tension straps exert an upward tension in the lower portion of the front member of the abdominal support, and because of the manner in which the front hose supporters are connected to the lower edge of the front member of the abdominal support and the front member of the garment, there will be a coaction between these members exerting a downward tension therein to provide for a corresponding pressure against the body and to maintain these partsiin their adjusted position for use.

I claim as my invention:

1. In an apparel garment of the class described, a front member, a back member, side members each comprising an inelastic section and an elastic section, the elastic section of each side member lying forward of its inelastic section, the edge of one side member being connected to the adjacent edge of the front member, means for detachably connecting the other edge of the front member to the adjacent edge of the opposite side member, an abdominal support connect-- ed at its ends to the, forward edges of the inelastic sections of the side members, and elastic tension straps in the said abdominal support, the said tension straps lying forward of the elastic sections of the side memmediate portion of the abdominal support lying beneath the said front member to provide a yielding support for the abdomen of the wearer.

2. In an apparel garment of the class described, a front member, aback member, side members each comprising an upper inelastic section-and lower elasticand inelastic sections, the longitudinaledge of one side meniher being permanently connected to the adjacent edge ofthe front member, means for detachably connecting the other edge of the front member with the adjacent edge of the opposite side member, and an abdominal support comprising a front member, anchor straps and elastic tension straps intermediate of the front member of the abdominal support and its anchor straps, the said anchor straps being connected to the edges of the lower inelastic sections of the side members and underlying the elastic sections thereof while thesaid tension straps and the front member of the abdominal support both underlie the first aforesaid front member to provide a yielding support for the abdomen of the wearer.

3 In an apparel garment of the class described, a front member, a back member, a side member comprising an inelastic section connected to the back member and an elastic section connected to the front member, a second side member also comprising an inelastic section connected to'the back member and an elastic section, means for detachably connecting the free edge of the front member to the last aforesaid elastic section of'the side member, and an abdominal support comprising a front member, anchor straps and tension straps, the said anchor straps being connected to the edges of the inelastic sections of the side .members and adapted to underlie'the elastic sections thereof with the tension straps connecting the anchor. straps to the front member of the abdominal support to provide a yielding support for the abdomen of the wearer.

4. In an apparel garment of the class described, a front member, a back member, a side member comprising an inelastic section connected to the back member and an elastic section connected to the front member, a
