' This inventionrelates to corsets, and more particularly to a garmentof this character which is deslgned togive proper support to the abdomenand :the organs therein, and at properly carried by the hips. My improved corset is, .thereforendesigned so that. the upper edge thereof reachesa little above. the waist-line 0f. tl1e#wearer,-.while the lower portion extends. downwardly about the hips and at the front below the abdomen. A still further object .of my invention is the provision of a corset provided with'an uninterruptedfront portion or' plate, laced to the body of the garment at both side edges thereof, this front portion extending downwardlybelow the abdomen and having therebelow an elastic section of .a width sub stantially equal tothat. of the front section. To these and other ends the invention consists in the novel features and combination of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed. a a

As shown in the drawings, the preferred embodiment of my invention which I have selected to illustrate and describe,' c omprises an inelastic body portion 10, comprising a number of sections 11, between which extend I i the usual stays 12. The stays are inserted in stay pockets 13. as is customary,}thes e pockets extending throughout the length of the body portion of the garment.- The stays themselves, however, as shown in Fig. 3, are

generally shorter than the garment,. and

while they extend .to the upper edge thereof,

they terminate above the lower edge of the corset, so that the lower part of the garment will be more flexible.

- The center of the back of the garment is shown by the line-14;, and upon each side gussets 15 of elastic materialmay be inserted so that this part of the garment may be stretched to some extent.

The body portion of the garment is provided at one end with a stay section 16 to which are secured clasp members 17, de-

signed to be engaged with cooperating clasp members 18 upon the stay section 19. In use,the garment will ordinarily be fastened and unfastened by means of these cla sp members, and as shown in Fig. 1, the garwith the arm and shoulder.

' The front portion of the corset comprises a front section 20 of inelastic material. At each edge this section is provided with eyelets 21 through which laces may be passed to be engaged with the eyelets 22 in the body portion 10 of the corset, and the. eyelets 23 in the clasp section 19. This front section is slightly higher at its central portion, as

It will be obvious that with this arrangement. the front section of the corset including the elastic portion 26, is relatively long adjacent the side edges where the laces are secured so that it extends downwardly to some extent over the limbs of the wearer and properly confines the flesh, and is shorter at the center front of the body to avoid the inconvenience which might be occasioned if it were longer at this point.

The stay pockets 27 and 28 at the side edges of the front section are extended downwardly throughout the length of the elastic section 26, so as to provide material of greater strength for the lace eyelets.

Flaps or shields 29 and 30 are secured respectively to the back section 10 of the garment and the stay section 19, these shields extending forwardly below the laces at each side of the front part of the garment, as shown in Fig. :2, to properly confine the flesh at this point and to keep the clothing of the wearer from wrinkling when the corset 1s laced. These shields are provided with stays 81, extending in a horizontal direction, which stays tend to hold the shields flatwiso on the body so as to prevent any bulkiness which might occur by reason of their becoming doubled or wrinkled. The front hose supporters 32 and 33 are sewed to the lower ends of the shields 29 and 30, while the rear hose supporters 34c and are sewed to the lower ends of the stay pockets upon the body portion of the garment. It will be apparent that by the provision of a continuous unbroken section at the front of the garment, with laces at both sides thereof, that this front sect on may be drawn to properly lit the body when the corset 1s laced, so that an upward pressure will be applied to the abdomen and at the same time this section may be properly positioned at the exact front center line of the body without varying the location of the clasp sections. which should properly be positioned below the arm. Bit the same time, the elastic section .26 across the front of the garment serves to properly keep the flesh confined and yet does not interfere with the necessary freedom of movement which should be allowed, nor with the assumption of a sitting position by the wearer. The side laces may be adjusted so that the weight of the abdomen will be properly carried to insure the correct posture of the wearer, and once fitted to the body the corset may be readily fastened in place and removed by means of the side clasps.

lVhile I have shown and described a preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that the same is not to be limited to all the details shown but is capable of modifiaition and variation within the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claims.

\Vhat I claim is:

1. A corset comprising a main section and a front section, said front section being adapted to extend continuously across the front portion of the body of the wearer and having its edges connected to the main section at the sides of the garment, and said front section comprising an upper inelastic portion and a lower elastic portion, said portions being coextensive in width and secured together along the meeting edges thereof, said inelastic portion having its lower edge carried down further at the center than on the sides, and said elastic portion being longer at its side edges than at the intermediate portion thereof.

2. A corset having a body section, and a continuous unbroken front section connected thereto and adapted to cover the front portion of the body of the wearer, said section comprising an inelastic part extending downwardly to the lower abdomen of the wearer, the central portion of said part being carried further down than the sides, and an elastic part secured below the first named portion and being substantially coextensive in width therewith.

3. A corset comprising a rear portion and a. continuous unbroken front portion adapted to be laced at both edges to the rear portions, shields each secured at one edge to the rear portion and having their free edges designed to extend beneath the adjacent edges of the front portion so as to lie beneath the laces, and hose supporters secured to said shields, said front portion having an upper inelastic part extending down to the a demon of the wearer, and a lower elastic part coextensive in width with the upper part and designed to exert an upward pressure 011 the abdomen.

A corset comprising a rear portion and a front portion adapted to be laced at both edges to the rear portion, shields each secured at one edge to the rear portion and having their front edges designed to extend beneath the adjacent edges of the front portion so as to lie beneath the laces, and hose supporters secured to said shields, said front portion having an upper inelastic part extending down to the abdomen of the wearer and a lower elastic part coextensive in width with the upper part, said inelastic part being carried down lower at the center of the lower edge than at the sides thereof and adapted by the pull of the elastic. portion thereon to exert an upward pressure on the abdomen.
