Description

April 20, 1948. P. E. ROSENBLATT CHAFE PANTIE Filed 'March 12, 194e l INVENTOR. PSFNQTT BY Q Patented Apr. 20, 1948 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2.440.021 cHAFE PANTm Pauline E. Rosenblatt, Cleveland, Ohio Application March 12, 1946, Serial No. 653,723
7 claims. (c1. 12s-149) This invention relates in general to under-4 garments and, more particularly, to chafe panties adapted to be worn under girdles, foundationv adapted to yieldingly clutch in cooperation withl the rear portion and chafe shields the thighs of a person wearing the pantie and yieldingly draw the chafe shields around such thighs and stretch the front and rear portions over the body of such person, all for the purpose of snug contact of the pantie with the body to insure proper absorption of body perspiration and secretion by the pantie.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a chafe pantie of the type referred to above having front andrear portions, a crotch portion connecting the central bottom portions of said front and rear portions, chafe shields attached to the crotch and the outer bottom portions of said front and rear portions, andl means secured to the bottom portion of said rear portion and said chafe shields adapted to yieldingly clutch in cooperation with the rear portion and chafe shields the thighs of a person wearing the pantie, yieldingly draw the chafing shields around such thighs and yieldingly stretch the rear portion at its lower edge to release excessive pull in the crotch and smoothly t the pantie over the body of such person, all for the purpose of a smooth but snug Contact of the pantie with the body to insure proper absorption of body perspiration and secretion by the pantie.
Such objects, according to the invention, are
lattained by .providing a pantie having front and rear portions united by a crotch and chafe shields with a pair of fastening means (hook and eye fasteners or similar devices) arranged so thatr each fastening means has its one member slidably supported on a strip of elastic secured at its ends to spaced points at the bottom edge at one side of the rear portion, and its. other member attached to the edge of the respective chafe shield.
A further object of the invention therefore is the provision of a chafe pantie having front and secured at its ends to spaced points of the bottom lower area 9 adjoining said rst area, which lower 1 edge of .the respective bottom side of the rear portion andanother attaching member secured to the outer edge of the respective chafe shield.
In addition, the .invention has certain other marked superiorities which radically distinguish it from presently known structures. These improvements or superiorities embodying certain novel `features of construction are clearly set forth inthe following specification and the appended claims; and a preferred form of embodiment of the vinvention is hereinafter shown with reference lto the accompanying drawing forming part of the specification.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a side perspective view of the chafe .pantie shown applied to a female figure.
Fig. 2 is a front perspective View of the chafe pantie.
Fig. 3 is a rear perspective view of the chafe pantie. Y
Fig. 4 is a plan view of the several blanks forming the pattern of the chafe pantie; and
Fig. 5 is an enlarged fragmentary perspective viewshowing the shiftably supported attachment member and its supports.
Referring now in detail to the drawing, the l body of open-sided chafe pantie 2, made of suitable knitted or netted material, embodies a front portion 3, a rear portion 4, a crotch member 5 and chafing shields 6, 6. The front and rear portions are designed to cling snugly to the front and back of a wearer and have their top portions connected with each other by pieces of elastic 1, 'l' and their central bottom portions sewn to the rectangularly shaped crotch member 5 made up of twosuperposed layers of material. To that end, front portion 3 includes a slightly wedgeshaped upper area 8, a sharply wedge-shaped area' is` formed with a horizontally arranged straight bottom edge I0 and sewed to the corresponding edge Il of crotch member 5, and rear portion 4 embodies an invertedly wedge-shaped upper area l2, adjoined by a sector-like lower area lll, slitted vertically at l5 to divide this area in left and right-handed sections I6 and l1 cooperating with chafe shields 6, B and crotch member 5 in substantially encircling the thighs of a person wearing the pantie and protecting the buttocks of such person.
The central portion I8 of the slit l5 in rear portion A is sewn to edge I9 of crotch member 5, which edge is opposite to edge Il and, furthermore, edges 20 and 2| of slit I5 adjoining central portion I 8 are attached to chafe shields 6, 6', also sewn to opposed edges 22, 22' of crotch member Ean'd inclined. edges .2B-3.23. ofiwedge shaped lower area- 9` offi'ont portion, soitiiatlt left and right-handed sections I6 and l1 of rear portions 4 together with chafe shields 6, 6 form7 leggings 24 which are split at their outside., and
thus provide proper chafe protection for` tlie' inside of the thighs of the wearer..
Each split legging 24 has the ends of its lower member and one of said extensions for forming sliti-leg'gings therewith, and resilient means for .-eacl'Lofr saidfleggings resiliently connecting the free ends of` a legging to each other and to the bottom; edgesoithe.v respective extension to reother by means of a pair of fastening, means 25, 26, member 25 of which is freely slidablir supportedv on a strip of elastic 21 secured at its ends to spaced points at". the bottom 'edge' oithe` respective section I'6Jor" Il1of"rea1"portion' 4;' and member 26'of which is atta'chedto;the'respective chafe .shield This arrangement. eiectsa'yieidingv clutching of th'e thighs of aperson wearing the pantie,.yieldingly stretches theW reanportion andV thus avoids excessive: pull" in.' the crdtciry and yieldingly stretches the' 'chaflng' shields' smoothly over. the thighs of; a person forproper'absorption of body perspiration andsecretion bycrotch portion and chafingshield's',
Fabrication ofi the body' of*v clia'fe-` pantie` 2' is` effected byY sewing edge I1" ofcrotcli member 5* to straight' bottom edge l0" ofiront portionl 3;
tive side edges of 'the 'crot'cli' memberL and: the",
