Description
I. F. WILLIAMS.
Improvement in Overshoes.
N0. 131,201. Patented Sep.10,1872.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFrIoE.
ISAAC F. WILLIAMS, OF BRISTOL, RHODE ISLAND.
IMPROVEMENT m OVERSHOIES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 131,201, dated September 10, 1872. W
To all whom it may cmicern:
Be it known that I, ISAAC F. WILLIAMS, of Bristol, in the county of Bristol and State of Rhode Island, have invented a certain new and useful Cloth and Rubber Gaiter-Overshoe.
My invention relates to that class of cloth and rubber gaiters which are provided with flapsand buckles; and it consists in a peculiar construction of certain double water-proofed jointed flaps so arranged that the flap-tonguepassing over the instep will draw equally up on the sides of the quarter when buckled to the foot and render the gaiter water-proof at all points adjacent to the flap; and I do hereby declare that the follo'win g specification, taken in connection with the drawing furnished and forming a part of the same, is a clear and true description thereof.
Referring to. the drawing, Figure 1 repre-' sents one of my gaiters in perspective. Fig.
2 represents the same with the flaps extended. Fig. 3 represents the two sections of the upper.
A denotes the vamp, and B the quarter. The edges a b of the vamp and d c of the quarter are joined, respectively, which completes one sideof the gaiter. On the other side the flaptongue extensions U are united together face to face, extending from the tips to the lines f g on the vamp and quarter, respectively. The vamp-edge e and quarter-edge h on being joined, complete that side of the shoe. The ankle-openin g is designated on vamp and quarter by the dotted lines. The lining of the gaiter is cut to correspond with the sections A and B, with the exception of the flap-tongue extensions, which are only composed of the exterior fabric, extending from the vamp and from the quarter;
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, to be secured by Letters Patent- As a new article of manufacture, a cloth and rubber gaiter-overshoe, having a double waterproof flap composed of extensions of the vamp and quarter, folded on each side of the instep, and provided with a buckle and flap-tongue, which are arranged to draw equally on each side of the quarter across the instep, substantially as described. I
H ISAAC F. WILLIAMS. Witnesses:
W. F. WILLIAMS,
FRANK G. BOWEN.
