ARTHUR KENNY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
lMPROVEM ENT IN BUTTON-GAITERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. [69,708, dated November 9, 1875; application filed October 27, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, ARTHUR KENNY, of New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Button- Gaiters; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it. reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification, in \\hi0l'z Figure l is a perspective view of my improvement. Fig. 2 represents the pattern.
This invention has relation to an improvement in button-gaiters; and consists in'a certain improvement in the cutting and manufacture of the same, whereby a great saving of material and labor is effected, and a shoe of unusually neat and attractive appearance, smooth and comfortable fit, is produced.
According to this improvement the outside quarter, vamp, button-flap, and foxing of inside quarter are all cut in one and the same piece, and the inside quarter cut in aseparate piece. In the gaiter the two quarters are stitched together at the heel. The inside quarter is also stitched to its foxing and to the button-piece, while to the outside quarter is stitched the piece to which the buttons are attached. Thus, it will be seen, the outer side of the gaiter exposes no seam whatever, the necessary side seam being across the inside, where it is concealed when the gaiter is worn.
Referring to the drawings, A, Fig. 1, represents the vamp; B, the button-piece; C, the button-flap; D, the inside quarter, and E the outside quarter. 7
In Fig. 2, represents the pattern cut to form the'outside quarter, vamp, button-flap, and foxing of inside quarter. B is the pattern of inside quarter, and G the pattern of button-piece.
What I claim as my invention is- 1. As a new article of manufacture, the improved button-gaiter, having the vamp, one
quarter, the button-flap, and foxing or lower 1 October, 1875.
ART HUB KENNY.
