E. LANTHIER. BUTTON BOOT OR SHOE.
No. 277,580. Patented May 15,1883
N. PETERS PhuflrLvihngnphur, Wnhingwrv. n. C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDO'UARD LANTHIER, OF MONTREAL, QUEBEC, CANADA, ASSIGNOR T0 v GEORGE THOMAS SLATER, OF SAME PLACE.
BUTTON BOOT OR SHOE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 277,580, dated May 15, 1883. Application filed February 26, 1883. (N0 model.) Patented in Canada August 10. 1882, No. 15,275.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDOUARD LANTHIER, 0f the city of Montreal, in the district of Montreal, and Province of Quebec, Canada, have invented certain -new and useful Improvements in Button Boots and Shoes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
The object of my invention is to provide a button boot or shoe which shall be easier to the foot and less likely to inconvenience the wearer than any made according to the style now in vogue.
In the present style of button boot the toepiece or vamp is so cut that its edges just overlap the edges of the side pieces or quarters, to which they are sewed, and this scam, besides being very liableto crack, is liable to press on and hurt the foot of the wearer. I propose to obviate this by making the toe-piece or vamp of.
such a shape that its rear edge shall reach back on the sides of the boot, the seam on the outside of the boot being where the smaller side piece or quarter joins the toe-piece or vamp, and on the inside and in front of the boot along the edge of the larger side piece or quarter and the button-hole piece. To enable the toepiece to fit easily over the instep, I cut it for some distance up the center, the incision be-. ing, when the parts are .put together, along the line of the smaller side piece or quarter, and of any width which will give the seam or lap desired.
For full comprehension, however, of the invention, reference must be had to the annexed drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figurel is a view of a boot embodying my invention; Fig. 2, a plan view of the under side of my toe-piece or vamp as arranged for a boot tor the right foot, and Fig. 3 a view of smaller side piece or quarter.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
A is the larger side piece or quarter, and B the smaller, 0 being the toe-piece or vamp, the shape of which is shown in Fig. 2, I) being the seam at the junction of B and O. The line of the seam between the side piece or quarter A and. the toe-piece or vamp U is iridicated by the double dotted line a in Fig. 2.
O is the incision in the toe-piece or vamp 0 showing where the stuff may be cut away over the instep to facilitate the joining together of the parts. The cut 0 may be made so as to give a less seam or lap, or so as to follow the line of the sewing a. p
D is the button-hole piece, cut in any usual style.
Having thus described my invention, I beg to state that what I claim is as follows:
1. In a button boot or shoe, the toe-piece or vampG, with incision O (3 cut so as to give any desired lap for the. seam, as and for the purposes set forth.
2. The combination, in a bu ttou boot or shoe, of the toe-piece or vamp C, out" as described. with incision C sides or quarters A and B, and button-hole piece D, all secured to each other as shown, and for the purposes set forth. EDOUARD LANTHIEE. Witnesses R. D. GREET, G. A. SLATER.
