Description
N. D. HUGHES.
NURSERY CHAIR.
APPLICATION mzo MAY 28. 19:8.
Patented Jan. 21, 1919.
-11 nun rnmnnnm. nsnmam NAOMI D. HUGHES, OF PRINEVILLE, OREGON.
NURSERY-CHAIR.
Application filed May 28, 1918.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, NAouI D. Hoenns, a citizen of the United States, residing at Prineville, in the county of Crook and State of Oregon, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Nursery-Chairs, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in nursery chairs and it is the principal object of the invention to provide a foldable nursery chair which when not in use can be folded into compact form and placed in a convenient or limited space thus rendering the same exceedingly desirable for use in traveling or in apartments and like places.
Other objects will be in part obvious and in part pointed out hereinafter.
In order that the invention and the manner of its application may be readily understood, I have in the accompanying illustrative drawings and in the detailed following description based thereon set forth a preferred embodiment of the invention.
In these drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved chair,
Fig. 2 is a rear elevation thereof, and
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary detail in top plan showing the connection of the rearleg of the chair with the seat of the same.
Having more particular reference to the drawings, in connection with which like reference characters will designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, 1 represents the seat of the improved chair having legs 2 and 3 pivoted to the forward marginal portions thereof as at i and adapted to bear against stops or strips 5 secured to the under side of the forward portion of the seat and extending for a distance beyond the marginal portions thereof, as clearly shown in Fig. 1. In this way, it is to be noted that the legs 2 and 3 will be braced in their set-up positions, consequently, affording an effectual support for the forward portion of said seat 1. Secured to the rear marginal portion of the seat, preferably intermediate its ends, is another leg 6, the same being pivoted to said seat as at 7 and adapted to swing at substantially right angles to the path of movement of the Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 21, 1919.
Serial No. 237,067.
To brace the upper portion of the rear leg '6 when in its set-up position, a stop 11 is secured to the rear marginal portion of the seat and as will be noted, is shouldered as at 12 and adapted to receive the adjacent portion of said leg thereon.
Manifestly, the construction shown is capable of considerable modification and such modification as is within the scope of my claims, I consider within the spirit of my invention.
I claim:
1. A nursery chair including a seat, legs pivoted to the marginal portions thereof and adapted to be moved in directions at substantial right angles to each other, stops carried by the seat adjacent the legs adapted to be engaged thereby, and a hook carried by one of said legs engageable with the adjacent portion of the seat for maintaining the same in upright position.
2. A nursery chair including a seat, legs pivoted to the marginal side portions thereof at points adjacent the front of the seat, stops arranged on the side marginal portions adjacent the legs adapted to be engaged thereby, another leg pivoted to the rear marginal portion of the seat intermediate the side marginal portion thereof adapted to be moved at substantially right angles to said first legs, a stop engaged with the rear marginal portion for limiting movement of said last leg, and a hook carried by the last leg engageable with the rear marginal portion of the seat for maintaining the same in upright position.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature hereto.
NAOMI D. HUGHES.
