TRIvET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 20, 1919.
Application filed October 3, 1917. Serial No. 194,557.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CLINTON J. TATE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Benton, in the county of Yazoo and State of Mississippi, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trivets; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in folding trivets.
The object of this invention is to provide a trivet capable of being folded and placed in a small space so that it may be carried in a soldiers pack or the like and it is especially adapted for use by miners, boy scouts, soldiers and campers.
A still further object of this invention is to provide the trivet with pivoted legs, which may be folded in a horizontal plane or extended in a vertical plane to position the trivet in place over a fire so that a can, pot or the like may be supported on the trivet.
A still further object of this invention is to provide a trivet of this character, which is simple, practical and comparatively inexpensive in construction.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the trivet as made in accordance with my invention, illustrating the same set up for use,
Fig. 2 is a side elevation illustrating the trivet collapsed, and
Fig. 3 is a front elevation of one of the pivoted legs of the trivet.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 5 designates an annular supporting band having arms 6 depending therefrom. The arms 6 are spaced equally about the band and are secured thereto by suitable rivets 7. The arms 6 are twisted longitudinally to provide attaching members 8. The outer edges of the attaching members are curved laterally to provide stop members or shoulders 9. A plurality of legs 10 have their upper ends flattened and terminate in apertured enlargements 11. The apertured enlargements 11 are pivotally secured as at 12 to the depending portions 8 of the arms 6. The enlargements 11 are located inwardly of the stop members or shoulders 9 whereby the legs may be moved to a horizontal position when collapsed and retained in a vertical position when the trivet is in use. As clearly illustrated in Fig. 1, the shoulders 9 prevent outward movement of the legs 10*.
What is claimed is:
In a device of the character described, an annular band, arms depending from said band, rivets securing said arms to said band, said arms having shoulders formed on their inner sides for engaging the under side of the said band whereby said rivets are relieved of all strain, the lower portion of said arms being flattened and provided with apertures, legs having the upper portions apertured and flattened, pivot elements extending through the apertures of said arms and legs, and shoulders carried by said arms and adapted for limiting the outward move ment of said legs;
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CLINTON J. TATE. Witnesses:
ARCHIE J. MCEAOHERN,
EARL A. SwAYzE.
