IMPROVEMENT IN LAMP-CHIMNEY CLEANERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 128,879, dated July 9, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROYAL It. HOWELL, of Fostoria, in the county of Seneca and in the State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lamp-Chimney O1 eaners; and do hereby declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specfication.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a lampchimney cleaner, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the annexed drawing, A A represent two bars of malleable iron or other suitable metal, hinged together like a pair of shears by a rivet so as to suit different-sized tubes.
The instrument is intended to be used and handled inside of the chimney with a rag,
piece of paper, chamois-skin, or other suitable material held between the jaws; Fruit-jars or other tubular glass vessels may be cleaned in the same manner.
The jaws at one end of the instrument may be dispensed with, this end serving then only as a handle. Upon thebars A A opposite each other are secured steel plates D D, fastened either by rivets or screws, which, plates form shears for the purpose of trimming the lamp-wicks. These shear-plates may be left oif if so desired, and the instrument be used only as a lamp-chimney cleaner.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the pivoted bars A A with jaws G O, the spring B, and shear-plates D D, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
