Description
C. W. ROBISON. Fork.
No. 218,642. Patented Aug. 19,1879.
if @MM UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES W. ROBISON, OF ALLEGHEN'Y, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGN'OR TO IDA B. BOBISON, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN FORKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 218,642, dated August 19, 1879; application filed May 26, 1879.
To all whom it may concern.-
Beit known that I, CHARLES W. RoBIsoN, of Allegheny, in the county of Allegheny, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Forks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
My invention relates to an improvement in forks and consists in making the teeth detachable, and secured in a head-piece or bar constructed iu two parts, the lower part being provided with openin gs for the insertion of the teeth, which are coniformed, or tapering from the head ltoward the point, and suitablycurved, the openings in the lower part of said headbar corresponding to the form and diameter of the upper end of said teeth.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
In the accompanying drawings, which form part of my specification, Figure l is a perspective view of my improved fork. Fig. 2 represents a longitudinal central section through the head of the fork, and corresponding section through the handle.
In the drawings, A B represent the headbar, the part B being provided with openings.
corresponding in size and form to the upper end of the teeth G. The part A is provided with a socket, D, for the reception of the handle e, which is constructed of wood, and made in any of the known forms, and secured in the socket by any of the known means. The part A is secured to the part B by means of screwnuts or screws, as at j', thereby holding .the teeth in position in the part B.
The teeth are made Of steel, and of any of the known forms. The head-piece, consisting of the parts A and B, may be made of Wroughtiron or of malleable cast-iron.
The advantages of my improvement are simplicity of construction, with facility of repairing in case of any of the teeth being broken or otherwise disabled, and the fork may be renewed by simply providing it with new teeth.
What I claim as my invention is- The herein-described fork, consisting of the headbar A B and detachable teethV C, the portion B of the head provided with tapering openings through it, corresponding in size and form to the upper tapering end of the teeth C, and the part A of the head provided with a socket for the handle, said portions A and B detachably connected together, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
CHARLES W. BOBISON.
