Description

(No Model.)
AERBORQ PAN LIFTER.
No 563,766. Patented July 14, 1896.
' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ANDRE? ERBOR, OF COPLAY, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO HARRY Y. HORN, OF SAME PLACE.
FTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 563,756, dated July 14, 1896.
Application filed March 23, 1896.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, ANDREW ER-BOR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ooplay, in the county of Lchigh and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pan-Lifters; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in combination-tools designed for various uses, among which may be mentioned a stove-lid lifter, a pan-lifter, a wrench, and such other uses as the device may be applicable for. It comprises two arms pivotally mounted, one having a hook portion to engage in the depression of a stovelid, and also with a jaw which is adapted to cooperate with a movable jaw acting in conjunction therewith and mounted on the other arm, the ends of the arms or handles being formed to continue in a curve or not, as may be preferred, but each carrying a wrench, which will be found useful in tightening the nuts about a stove or other places.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will hereinafter appear, and the novel features thereof will be specifically defined by the appended claims.
The invention in this instance resides in the peculiar construction, and the combinations, arrangement, and adaptation of parts, all as more fully hereinafter described, shown in the drawings, and then particularly pointed out in the claims.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure l is a view of my improved implement. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section through the same. Fig. 3 is a cross-section through the same. Fig. & is a view of the movable jaw removed.
Like letters of reference indicate like parts throughout the several views.
Referring now to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates one of the handles or arms and B the other. They are pivot- Serial No. 584,478. (N0 model.)
ally connected by a pivot 0, held in the enlargements a of the arm or handle A, the arm or handle B working in the slot of the arm or handle A, as shown.
The arm or handle B has the extension B beyond its pivot, as shown, and on this extension is the movable jaw D, which has the lugs (Z loosely embracing the extension, and its acting face may or may not be serrated. This jaw has the arm or extension E, which rides or works loosely in the slot a of the handle or arm A beyond its pivot, as shown, and is provided with the cross bar or pin F, which prevents its being pulled out, and which also serves to guide the same in its movements.
Gr is a spring, secured at one end to a pin or cross-bar H on the handle A, and its other end is connected to the yoke-like connection or link I, which is pivotally mounted in the movable jaw, as shown.
The handle A is formed with the curved or hook-shaped portion J, which extends from near its pivot, as shown, and is adapted to serve as a stove-lid lifter, as will be readily understood.
One of the handles terminates in a flat end plate M, as shown, against which the movable jaw'D is designed to bear.
The manner of use willbe apparent. \Vhen to be used for lifting pans and the like from the oven, the same are engaged at the top of their vertical portion between the movable jaw and the jaw N, formed on the handle A and extended substantially parallel with the movable jaw, and then by pressing the handles together the pan will be securely held between the jaws and may be lifted or turned around in the oven as may be desired.
lVhat is claimed as new is 1. The combination with the handle formed with a jaw, of the handle pivoted thereto, and having an extension, the movable jaw having flanges loosely embracing said extension, and a spring acting on the movable jaw, substantially as specified.
2. The combination with the handle formed with a jaw and slot, of the handle pivoted thereto and working in said slot and formed with an extension, the movable jaw having flanges loosely embracing said extension and an arm working through a slot in the handle,
and a pin passed through said arm andscrving to guide the movable jaw in its movements, as set forth.
3. The combination with the handle formed with a jaw and slot, of the handle pivoted tl'iereto and having an extension, the movable jaw having flanges loosely embracing said extension, the link pivotally mounted in said movable jam, and the spring connecting the same with a pin on the handle, as set i'oi'tli.
4:. The implement described consisting of the j 21W A formed with handle and curved stove-lid lifter and slot, the handle B having an extension, and working through said slot and pivoted to the handle A, the IllOYLlUlQ jaw having flanges loosely embracing zllil extension and an arm working through inc slot in the handle A and provided with a transverse pin, the yoke pivotally connected to the movable jaw, a spring connecting sand yoke with a pin on the handle A, all subsumtially as and for the purposes described.
In testimony whereof I have signed .lllS specification in the presence 01' two suhsm-ioing witnesses.
' ANDREW ERBHR. \Vitnesses L H. 13. YINGLING, I 11:. B XVAGNER.
