Description

UNION SUN.
APPHCATlC-N mm ENE/{9,1914- Patentad N 0 PHILIP .A. LUCKETT, OF SALISBURY; MARYLAND.
UNION-SUIT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 12, 191 8;.
Application filed May 19, 1914. Serial No. 839,584.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PHILIP A. L CKETT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Salisbury, in the county of Wicomico, State 5 of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Union-Suits; and I do hereby declare the following to be a fullycleai and exact description of the invention, such'as willenable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to union-suits.
The object of the invention resides in the from beneath the flap, the connection between the fiap and body being of such a na-.
ture that-binding at the crotch is obviated'as is also the necessity of cutting the crotch extra long with resulting bagging at that point.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of' parts to be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims. a
In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawingswherein like characters of-reference denote corresponding parts in the several views, and in which Figure 1 tion; v
Fig. 2, a rear view of same with the seat flap closed; I
Fig. 3, a view similar to Fig. 2 withthe seat flap opened;
Fig.- 4:, a section-on the line 44 of Fig. 2, and
Fig. 5, a partial side View of the suit. 1 Referring to the drawings the improved union-suit is shown as comprising a body portion 10 and leg portions 11 and 12. The front of the suit isprovided with an opening extending from the crotch tothe top of the'garment, said opening being adapted to be closed by a plurality of button andbutton hole connections 13'. The rear portion ofthe body 10 isseparate from the top of the connecte'dleg'portions Hand 12 so as to form is a front View of a union suit constructed in accordance with. the 1I1V6I1 a seat flap 14 adapted in its closed position to overlie the bottom of the body portion 10. The flap 14 is separated from only the leg portion 12, such separation extending from the top of the flap to a point adjacent the lower end of the leg portion 12. The flap 14 is adapted to be detachably secured to the front of the leg portion l2 by means of a button and button hole connection 15, while one end of the top is adapted to be'detachably secured to the bodyportion by a button and button hole connection 16. The flap 14 is provided centrally of its-top with a button hole 17 which is adapted to be engaged over a button-18 mounted on an elastic tab 19 secured to the body portion 10 and whereby the central portion of the flap 14 is secured inoverlying relation to the bottom of the body portion in such manner that said body portion is prevented from creeping so that the lower edge thereof will be disposed above the top of the flap. It will be further noted in this connection that the elasticity of the tab 19 when the flap is secured thereto will prevent bindingat the crotch and obviate the necessity of cutting the crotch extra long with resulting bagging at that point.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings it will be obvious that there has been provided a very convenient union-suit embodying va construction aifording ample allowance for movement of the body withresulting comfort to the wearer.
What is claimed is l. A union-suit comprising a body and leg portions, said leg portions'being sep arated from the rear of the body portion and one of the leg portions having its front and rear sections separated at its outer side a predetermined distance to form a flap seat,
. and means for detachably connecting the top and free side edge of the seat to the body portion and the front section of one of said leg portions respectively.
2. A union-suit. comprising a body and legportions, said leg portions being separated from the rear of the body portion and one of the leg portions having its front and rear sections separated at its outer side a predetermined distance to form a flap scat, means for detachably securing the'top and free side edges of the seat to the body portion and front section of oneof said leg portions respectively, an elastic tabsecured to the rear of the body portion, and means for detachably securing said tab to the top of the flap seat. v
3. A union undergarment having a permancntly closed crotch, an'opening extending partially across the back of the undergaymentani down the outside of one of its legs and terminating short oftn'e lower end of said. leg, the latter being" permanently closed below the said terminus of said opening, and'means for detachabiy fastening the drop seat flap defined by said opening.
In testimony whereof I afiiX my signature, in the presence oftwo witnesses.
PHILIP A. LUCKETT.
