Description
M L. HELLER.
WAISTBAND.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE 6. 191? latented July 16, 1918.
MILTON I1. HELLER, 0F BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
wnrs'rnm.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MILTON L. HELLER, a
citizen of the United States, residing .at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Waistbands; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in .the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to the improvement and construction of waist bands and more particularly to that type used in boys trousers.
It has-for an object to provide 1, waist band having an elastic webbing secured therein with means for obtaining a number of adjustments to always assure a tight fit of the waist band about the waist of a wearer. i
A further object of this invention is the provision of a waist band having an elastic webbing detachably secured therein and having means carried by said waistband and by said elastic webbing to permit a number of adjustments being had.
A. further object of this invention is the provision of a waist band which maybe manufactured and sold as a stock article for attachment in trousers and the like andhaving said waist band so formed as to eliminate all other supporting means for the trousers in which this type of waist band is included.
. I Furtherobjects will be pparent from the following specification, appended claims and drawings, in which,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a pair of youths trousers showing this waist band included therein,
Fig. 2'is a perspective view of the waist 3 is a longitudinal horizontal section view through the waist band,
Fig.4 is a vertical sectional view showing the waist band secured in a garment,
. .site
in trousers, it is evident that when worn no other fastening or supporting means are required and that provision is made for ad- Specification of Letters Patent.
, tic webbing may anyof the eyelets 21 secured in the web- 1 bing 19 and from Fig. 5 1s a EQISPQCHVB new of one of the.

iustment of the elastic webbing to accommodate itself to waists of various measurements. .The elastic webbing which comprises the adjustable feature of this type of waist band is removable from the waist band for substitution of other strips of webbing, or for laundrying purposes and the fasteners carried by the end of this elastic webbing are such as to prevent accidental displacement between the webbing compris: ing the waist band and'the garment proper.
Referring to the drawings in which the several parts are clearly shown, 10 indicates a pair of trousers of the type worn by youths, and in this garment, is secured the waist band 11. This waist band comprises a non-elastic webbing having its upper edge folded as at 13 to form a neat seam when stitched to the garment proper. The lower edge of the webbing is attached to the garment'as. by the row of stitching 15, and the upper edge may be stitched through both plies of the webbing 11 as at 16, or the stitching may pass through the folded portion only. It is understood that this waist band is fastened to the garment in quite the manner as is commonly used and that when the waist band is secured, a tubular pocket is formed between the waist band and the gar ment.
The webbing 11 has the transverse slits An elastic webbing 19 is passed through the slits 17 and has the ends exposed on the outside of the waist band to receive fastening members 20 so that the end of this elasbe adjustably connected to bing 11 and the lining 18. The fastening members 20 comprise metallic chps folded togrip the oppos1te sides of the elastic webthe ends of one of the folded portions are the stems 22 -wh1ch present a fastener of greater length than the slits 17 so. that the fastener cannot acc dentally pass through the sllts 17 This side of the clamp is also recessed to form a tongue 23 which is bent to have locking engagement with any of the eyelets 21 and the opposite folded port on of the clamp 13 ;,formed i to a ser e f teeth 4= h h W garment, desired binding action may be established by adjustment of the elastic webbing 19 to create the desired tension and with this webbing passing through a pocket formed by the webbing 11 and the garment,
the gathered portion of the garment is kept inform.
It is evident that modifications can be made in view of the foregoing description without departing from the spirit of the .'-claims, and no'limitation is implied by the drawingwhich is for illustrative purposes only. I
, aving thus described this invention I claim:
1. In a waist band of the class described, non-elastic webbing, reinforcing material secured to said non-elastic webbing throughout sections thereof, said non-elastic webbing and reinforcing material having transverse slits formed therein, in spaced relation, eyelets secured in said non-elastic webbing and reinforcing material in spaced relation beyond the slit portions, an elastic webbing having its ends passed through the slit portion of said non-elastic webbing, fasteners carried by the ends of the elastic webbing having extensions from the ends thereof to give these fasteners a length greater than the slits in the non-elastic webbing, and hooks formed on said fasteners for cooperation with any of the eyelets carried by the non-elastic webbing.
' 2. In a waist band'of the class described, a non-elastic webbing having transverse slits formed therein in spaced relation, an elastic webbing having portions thereof passing through the slit portions of the non-elastic a non-elastic webbing having eyelets formed.
therein in spaced relation, an elastic webbing detachably carried by said non-elastic webbing, and fasteners carried by the end of said elastic webbing, said fasteners comprising folded members, having one of thefolded portions formed in a plurality of teeth which are embedded into the elastic webbing, and having the other folded portion provided with extensions from the ends thereof and with a hook member centrally formed therein.
4. In a waist band of the class described,
a non-elastic binding for attachment into the waist band of a garment, having transverse slits formed therein in spaced relation between the ends of said band, a plurality of eyelets carried by said band between the slit portions and the ends of the band, an elastic web carried by said band passing through the slit portions of said band, and fastening members carried by the end of said elastic webbing for engagement with one or another of the eyelets toward theend of the band, said fasteners having extensions from the ends thereof to present a greater dimension of said fasteners than the longitudinal dimension of the slit portion to prevent accidental displacement of the ends of the elastic webbing through said slit portion.
.In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
