TROUSERS Filed April 5, 1935 Patented July 20, 1937 Artnr orties Application April 6, 1935, Serial No. 15,167 In Sweden May 5, 1934 4 Claims.
This invention relates to an improvement in trousers having a waistband and a front placket or ily, the object of the invention being to provide fastening means whereby it will be possible to hold the garment safely supported upon the wearer while avoiding the use of the ordinary braces or the. ordinary belt otherwise used for holding the trousers in proper position.
The invention is especially valuable during the warm season when waistcoat and in many cases also jacket are not worn in every-day use, and also in connection with dresses for tennis, gymnastics and sporting.
According to the invention the waistband on the covering part of the front placket or fly of the trousers is prolonged to a strap provided with one or more buttonholes while on the subjacent part of the placket the waistband has a slit, beyond which, on the inside of the waistband, buttons are fastened, on which the strap is buttoned after that it has been put through the waistband slit. By varying the buttoning of the strap it is possible to secure the proper contraction of the waistband which in each case is required ior holding the trousers tight around the waist. Buttons as well as backand side-straps on the outside of the waistband which otherwise are used on trousers are avoided by this invention whereby the trousers obtain a fine appearance. The device may also be used in connection with an adjustable belt placed in a tunnel in the waistband whereby an increased possibility of suiting the. waistband to the width of the waist is obtained as will be more fully explained in the following.
The invention is illustrated by the accompanying drawing which shows some embodiments thereof. Fig. 1i shows a perspective view of the upper part of a pair of trousers with waistband according to the invention and Fig. 2 shows the waistband thereof from the inside. Fig. 3 shows a portion of the waistband of a second embodiment with double waistband strap seen from the outside.
In the embodiment shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the trousers, which are a pair of walking trousers I having the usual front placket or fly 2, have a waistband 3 which on the covering part of the front placket is prolonged to a strap il having one or more buttonholes 5. In buttoning the trousers the strap l is put through a slit 6 in the waistband on the subjacent part of the front placket and is buttoned on buttons 'l which are fastened with suitable distances apart on a strap 8 sewn to the inside of the waistband and provided at its rear end with a clasp 9 for holding one end of a belt Ill which to its substantial length is placed in a tunnel in the waistband 3, said belt extending through the greater part of the waistband and with its other end being secured to the waistband as is indicated at ll. In this embodiment the trousers are approximately suited to the waist width of the wearer by a suitable contraction of the belt whereupon a more exact iitting is obtained by buttoning the strap on that of the buttons 'l which just gives the most suitable tightening of the waistband around the waist. If the width of the waist is materially altered during the life of the trousers compensation can be easily obtained by altering th-e contraction of the belt and the t of the trousers thus be maintained.
In the embodiment shown in Fig. 3 the waistband strap on the covering part of the front placket is double, that is, consists of a band which at its middle part is sewed to the front side of the ily and has two loose ends or straps lla, lib, extending toward both sides to the right and to the left. One of said ends or straps is indicated by la and corresponds as regards form and arrangement to 'the strap ll in Figs. 1 and 2 and is thus buttoned to a strap 8 sev/ed to the inside of the waistband. The other end or strap 4b, which also has button-holes, is in buttoning the trousers put through a slit l2 in the waistband on the covering part of the trousers front placket and buttoned on buttons I3 on the inside of the waistband 3. The buttons I3 may be fastened to a reinforcing part itl secured to the inside of the waistband and corresponding to the strap 8. Said reinforcing part le may be secured directly to the xed end l i of the belt Ill or may consist of its end which in the latter case is drawn out from the tunnel in the waistband 3 and secured to the inner side of the waistband. It is not necessary to unbutton said strap from the buttons i3 on opening the trousers, in as much as its chief object only is to counteract the pull of the part 4a on the covering part of the front placket and when required to assist in suiting the width of the trousers to the. wearers waist width. In other respects the embodiment shown in Fig. 3 is similar to that shown in Figs. l and 2 and similar parts carry the same reference characters. Instead of one band or strap having two free ends 4a, 4b, said two free ends in Fig. 3 may be understood tc be. two separate straps 4a, lib, sewed to the covering part of the fly 2 at their adjacent ends to form the double strap.
1. A trousersgarment having a waistband provided with a slit, a tunnel and a fly, said yrhaving a covering part and a subjacent part, a
strap xed to said waistband on the covering part of Vsaid ily forrinsertion through said slit, a second strap secured to the inside of said waist-v band, a variable button-and-hole connection between said two straps, a clasp secured to said second strap, and a belt placed in theV tunnel in said waistband, said belt having one end adjustably connected withssaid clasp, the other end Vof said belt being secured to said waistband. Y
Y2. A trousers garment having a y and a waistbandplovided with a tunnel and two slits, said ilyhavingarcovering part,'means providing twoV ton-and-holetrconnection between the other of Ysaid outer strap end portions and said waistband at that end of said'belt which is secured to said waistband. Y Y Y Y 3. A trousers garmentY having a fly and a waistband provided with a Ytunnel and two slits,
said iiyhaving a covering part, two free *outer` l strap end portions extending in opposite directions and fixed to the waistband on the covering part of the ily for insertion through the two slits of the waistband, an inner strap secured to the inside of said waistband, a variable button connection between one of said outer strap end por- `tions and said inner strap, a clasp secured to said inner strap, a belt placed in a'tunnel in said waistband, said belt having onev end adjustably connected with said clasp and its other end xed to said waistband, a reinforcing member secured to said fixed end of said waistband, and abutvton connection Vbetween the other of said outer strap end portions and said reinforcing member.
4. A trousers garment having a fly and a waist- Y band provided with a tunnel and two slits, said y'having a covering part, a band sewn in its middle part to the covering part of said fly, said band having two free ends forming two outer` straps for insertion through the two slits'of the waistband, an inner strap securedrto the inside of said waistband, a variable button-and-hole connection between one of said outer straps and said inner strap, a clasp secured to said inner strap, a belt placed in a tunnel in said waistband,
Vsaid belt having one end adjustablyconnected with said clasp and its other end secured to said waistband,V and Va button-and-hole connection between the other of said straps and said Waistband at that end of said belt, which is secured to said waistband.
