Description

I]; R. SMITH.
SHAWNG APPAR'ATUS. APPLICATION FILED AUG-2, I916- Patented J an. 29, 1918.
Daniel [245m apparatus constructed L Amg PATENT OFFIQE.
DANIEL RAYMOND SMITH, OF NEW YORK, N.
' snavme APRABA'IUS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DANIEL Ramona SMITH, a citizen of the United States, resid. ing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Shaving vest pocket and includes a casing adapted to serve as a handle for a safety razor and is provided with a plurality of longitudinally extending compartments for the reception of a safety razor and a combined brush and soa holder included in the outfit.
Another ob ect of the invention is to provide an apparatus of the class described in which the casing for holding the razor and the combinedsoap holder and brush is so constructed as to enable access to be had to these articles in a quick and convenient manner.
With these and other objects inview, the
invention resides in the novel combinationand arrangement of parts which will be hereinai'ter described and particularly pointedout in the claims.
The preferred embodiment of the invention has been illustrated in the accompanying drawing, althou h no restriction is necessarily made to t e precise details of construction therein shown, as chan es, al-
terations, and modifications, withm the:
scope of the claims may be resorted to when desired.
Like characters of reference denote corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a shavin in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section therethrough showing the combined brush and soap holder in elevation.
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2 showing .the combined brush and soap holder in section.
form of the invention, the casing included in the apparatus being shown partly in section.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed August 2, 1916. I Serial No. 112,308.
Fig. is a side elevation partly in section,
Patented Jan. as, rate.
of a modified form of'the combined brush and soap holder included in the shaving apparatus.
Referring now to Figs. 1, 2, and 3 in the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a hollow casing formed from an suitable material .such as metal, or the li e, and is providedwith open ends 2 and 3, said casing is oblate in shape in cross section. p
Extending transversely of the casing between its ends is a partition 4 which divides the easing into compartments 5 andti, the compartment 5 being adapted to receive a safety razor '2' which may be of any of the types now in common use.
The open end of the compartment 5 is closed by a flanged cap 8 having an upstanding and threaded stud 9 near one end thereof adapted for connection with the safety razor 7 when said razor is removed from the compartment 5 to enable the casing to serve as a handle therefor.
The com artment 6 is adapted to receive a combined rushand soap holder 10 including a handle 11 and a brush head 12.
The handle 1]. is hollow and provided at diametrically opposite points between its ends with longitudinally extendin slots 13. A bar 14 extends transversely of t e handle 11 and has its ends received in the slots 13 to enable the bar to be moved longitudinally of the handle which it'divides into compart-- ments 1-5 and i6.
A cake of shaving soap 1? is received in the compartment 15 and has-an end resting upon the bar 14, so that when a cap 18 has been removed from one end of the handle and the bar 14 moved longitudinally of the handle an end on the cake of soap will ,ing'membei' may be removed to a, position within the handle in which the bristles on the head will be received within the handle {to enable the same to serve as a protector therefor. Fig. 4 is a. perspective view of a modified of the combined brush' and soap ho Throughthe above described arrangiunent er it will at once be apparent that the parts theirsof are so connectedthattheymay be easily and quickly disconnected for cleaning purposes when the occasion arises.
The end 3 of the casing is closed by a flanged cap 20 which is frictionally engaged with the casing 1 and is provided with a centrally disposed and threaded opening 21 to enable the casing. to be connected with a safety razor having a stud for connection with a handle, said opening also insuring the ventilation and draining of the compartrnent 6.
The construction of the shaving apparatus shown in Fig. 4: in the drawing is similar to that shown in the preferred forms of the invention with the exception that the casing 22 of the apparatus is formed from hingedly connected casing sections 23 and 24 of semioblate shape in cross section and held in closed position by. caps 25 and 26 identical in construction with the caps 8 and 20 to enable the casing to be connected with the razor associated with the outfit! The casing 22 like the casing 1 is provided ranged between the ends of the handle 30 toform compartments 31 and 32 within the handle. The compartment 32 receives the bristle holding member on the brush head 33 while the compartment 81 receives a cake of soapdi connected with a flange 35 on a cap i aee cei 36 for closing the other end of the compartment 31.
When it is desired to use the shaving a paratus, the cap may be removed from t e handle of the combined soap holder and brush after the same has been removed from the casing 1 and the combined soap holder and brush used to produce a lather.
The razor head associated with the casing may be either connected with the stud on the cap at one end of the casing or it the razor,
head has a stud it may be connected with the cap at the other end of the casing by means of the opening therein, so that thecasing will serve as a handle for the razor.
From the above description, it will be seen i that a shaving apparatus has been provided in which all parts thereof are soconstructed that they may be easily cleaned and that the device as a whole may be quickly assembled for disposition in the vest pocket, the casing of the apparatus being so shaped as to conveniently fit therein,
Having thusdescribed the invention, what is claimed as new, is:
1. In a shaving apparatus, a pair or open ended case sections of semi-oblate shape in cross section and hingedly connected along one edge, a partition between said sections rigidly connected with one of said sections,
and flanged caps into which the ends of said sections extend holding said sections in closed position.a I
2. In a shavin apparatus, an open ended brush handle of 0 late shape in cross section a flanged cap into which one end of a handle extends, a brush head slidably mounted within said handle; and a follower between said brush head and cap slidably connected at with said handle. r
