To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HARRY D. DELANEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Memphis, in the county of Hall and State of Texas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Combined Shaving and 'looth Brushes, of which the following is a specification. I i

This invention contemplates the provision of a combined shaving brush and tooth brush, the parts being so constructed and arranged, that the tooth brush can be folded upon the handle of the shaving brush in a manner to provide a compact article requiring but a minimum of space in a toilet or travelling bag, and when not in use, the heads of the brushes are completely covered, thereby keeping said brushes clean and sanitary.

The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the following detailed description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing, the invent-ion residing in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as claimed.

In the drawing forming part of this application, like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, and wherein:

Figure 1 is a plan View partly in section.

Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view showing the position of the tooth brush when not in use.

Figure 3 is a view in elevation showing the position of the tooth brush when in use.

Figure 41 is a sectional view taken on line l-1 of Figure 2.

Referring to the drawing in detail, 10 represents the handle of the shaving brush, which handle is hollow, one end receiving the head 11 of the said shaving brush as shown in Figure 1. This particular end of the handle 10 is threaded to accommodate the,

threads on a cap 12 which completely covers the bristles of the brush when not in use. The other end of the handle 10 is normally closed by means of a hinged cover 13, which can be conveniently opened to permit access being had to the handle toremove therefrom either of the containers 14 and 15 respectively, one of the containers containing a shaving cream, while the other contains a tooth paste or powder. These containers are arranged in separate compartments 16 defined by a partition 17 extending throughout the entire length of the handle, and a right angular-1y disposed partition 18 which extends throughout a portion of the length of the partition 17. By opening the cover 13 either of these containers can be easily inserted within or removed from its respective compartments. 'The handle 10 above the partition 17 is provided with a longitudinal groove 19 which groove opens at the outer end of the handle, while the inner endv of the groove communicates with an opening 20 formed in the handle to receive the ions tles 21 ofthe tooth brush, the handle of which is indicated at 2-2. The handle 22 of this brush is pivoted within the groove 19 as at 23 at a distance from the outer end of the handle, and when not in use the handle lies within the groove as shown in Figure 2 flush with the outer surface of the handle, the bristles 21 projecting through the opening 22 and rep'osing upon the partition 17. This provides for a very unique and compact arrangement, so that both articles wil! require but a small. amount of space in either toilet or a travelling bag, and it is manifest upon inspection of Figure 2 that when the brushes are not in use, the bristles are completely protected from dirt and other foreign matter and thus maintained in a clean and sanitary condition. On the other hand either of said brushes can be conveniently used, it being only necessary to remove the cap 12 from the handle 10 for the purpose of using the shaving brush, during which use the tooth brush occupies an out of the-way position, inasmuch as it lies flush with the outer surface of the handle 10. lVhen it is desired to use the tooth brush, it is only necessary to swing the brush upon its pivot 23 to the position shown in Figure 3, the tooth brush projecting beyond one end of the handle, and held steady with relation to the handle 10 by being partly received by the adjacent end of the groove 19.

l/Vhile it is believed that from the foregoing description, the nature and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent, I desire to have it understood that I do not limit myself to what is herein shown and described, and that such changes may be resorted to when desired as fall within the scope of what is claimed.

Having thus described the invention, I claim:

1. In combination, a shaving brush including a handle, having a longitudinal groove and an opening at one end of the groove, a tooth brush including handle pivoted Within said groove andadapted to normally lie flush with the outer surface of the handle, or projected beyond oneend of the handle for use, said openingbeing adapted to receive the bristlesiofisaid brush when the latter is in its folded position.

2. In combination, a shavingbrush having a hollow handle, partitions dividing the handle into separate compartments, a pivoted cover for the outer end of the handle, 'said handle having a longitudinal groove and an opening at one end of 'the groove, and a tooth brush" including 'a handle pivoted within said groove and ada 'ited to norr ially lie within the latter flush with the outer surface of the handle and projected beyond one 'end of the handle for u'se,.said opening being adapted to receive the bristles of the *tooth brush when" the latter is folded.

3. 'In combination,-a hollow handle having a longitudinalgioove and anope'ning "corninunica'ting with one end 0f the groove, atooth brush including a handle pivoted within the groove adjacent the outer end o'f-t'he handlefand adapted to lie within the groove flush with the outer surface of said handle when not in use, and proiected beyond one end of the handle and partly received by said groove to steady the tooth brush for use, said opening of the handle being adapted to receive the bristles of the tooth brush when the latter is folded upon said handle.

4. In combination, a hollow handle, partition-s dividing the handle into separate conipartinents, a closure for one end of the handle, said handle having a longitudinal groove and an opening communicating with one end of the groove, a tooth brush including ahan'dl e pivoted within the groove adjacent one end of the handle, and adapted to nor- 1nally lie within the groove flush with the outer surface of the handle, the bristles of said tooth brush being adapted to pass through said opening and repose upon the adjacent partition within said handle when the tooth brush is not in use.
