Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented 1t av. 22, 12116.
Application filed uetober 15, 1915. Serial mascots.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that l, FLOYD citizen of the United States, residing at Uneonta, in the county of Otsego and State have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Toilet Sets and Cases; and l dohereby-declare the followipg to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such'as will enable it appertains to make and use the same.
The primary object of this invention is to combine a plurality of toilet articles, so that when not in use, they can be folded so as to occupy a minimum amount of space when placed within a suitcase or traveling bag.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this nature, which can be manufactured cheaply, will be durable and etiicient in operation.
Other objects will appear and be better understood from that embodiment of, my invention of which the following is a specification, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof in which I Figure l is a side view of the toilet set, showing the same in operative position. Fig. 2 is a lo: gitudinal section taken through the casing for the toilet set when folded to inoperative position.
Referrin to the drawings in detail, the numeral 1 esignates a hair brush having a back portion 2, formed preferably of aluminum or similar metal, the said back having a chamber 3 therein opening into the torward end of the back portion 2. The chamher 3 removably receives a rectangular shaped mirror 4, the said mirror having the end which lies adjacent the open end of the chamber 3, provided with a rectangular shaped portion 5, which is of a greater width and length than the width and height of the chamber 3, and is adapted to close the open end of the chamber? when the mirror is positioned within the chamber and lies flush with the adjacent edge of the back, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the rectangular portion 5 carries a manipulating handle 6, by means of which the drawn from the chamber and held in upright position. The back 2 has its rear -end vided with an upwardly and outwardly extending bracket arm 6, the upper terminal CUMMINGS, a
others skilled in the art to which mirror can be conveniently with proprovided with an apertured the hair brush 1, is a has a tubular back portion 10, which is substantially triangular in cross section, and has its inner'side provided with comb teeth 11. The forward end of the tubular back portion of the comb, is opened, so as to admit of the insertion of a tooth brush 12 within the tubular back portion when in use, the said open end being closed by a removable cap '13, which has a cylindrical extension 14 adapted to be removably received by the open'end of the tubular back portion 10 of the comb.
The rear end of the tubular back portion 10 of the comb, is provided with an upwardly and outwardly extending arm 15, the upper end of which has formed thereon an apertured ear similar to the ear 7 on the bracket arm 6 and is ositioned at one side of the ear 7, and a bolt 19 extends through the ears and pivotally connects the same so as to permit the combQbeing folded over upon the brush 1, so that the teeth or the comb will be inserted within the bristles of the brush. When so folded, the toilet set is placed within Fig. 2, the said casing configuration, havin one end opened and adapted tobe closed y a hinged cap 22,-the said cap 22 carrying a. depending spring latch 23 adapted to engage over a lug 24 carried on the adjacent wall of the casing 21. so as to hold the cap 22 in closed position.
on it is desired to use the toilet articles, the same are withdrawn from the casing 21, and unfolded to the position shown in Fig. 1. If it is desired to use the comb, the brush is gripped by one hand of the operator, and the same serves as a handle for the comb, and the combing operation can be carried out in the ordinary manner. When the brush is to be employed, the tubularbody 10 will serve as a handle for the brush and be grasped by the hand of the operator, so that the brush can be conveniently operated. After the combing or brushing operation, the comb is folded on the brush and the toilet set is then inserted within the case 21, as shown in Fig. 2.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be seen that l have provided a new and novel combination toilet'set and case,
being of rectangular a casing, designated 21, in i lilo ' which when not in use, can be conveniently stored within a narrow space within a suitcase or traveling bag.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is As a new article of manufacture; a pair of pivotally connected elements; brush bristles carried by one of the elements; comb teeth carried by the other element; either element being adapted to serve as a handle during the use of the other element; and
the said elements being adapted, when not in use, to be folded into parallelism with each other and to have the comb teeth engage in the brush bristles.
In testimony whereof ll afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
