Description

L GUTM AN. SANlTARY SHAVING 0mm PACKAGE. APPLICATION FILED IULYZ I915.
1 188 443. Patented June 27, 1916.
INVENTOR ATTORNE V LEOPOLD GI J'TMAN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SANIT A BY-SHAVING OUTFIT PACKAGE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEOPOLD GUTMAN, -a subject of the Emperor of'Austria-Hungary, residing at 573 Second avenue,-city,
county, and State of New York, have in- I vented new and useful Improvements in Sanitary-Shaving-Outfit Packages, of which the following is aspecification.
This invention has for its object to dispense with the use of the manifestly unsanitary general shaving cups and brushes which are found in barber shops, and consists in the provision of individualshaving outfit packages to be vended by coin-controlled machines stationed in such places, convenient for use by. the public.- The shaving materials contained in these packages will be properly sterilized and sealed in impervious wrappers in the manufacture of.
the packages, so that their sanitary condi tion will be insured at the time'of purchase.
age when ready for vending purposes, the
practice to be most suitable.
,The construction of these shaving materials in practice is to be such thatthey will be capable of being used only once, whereby danger of further use by persons other than the first user will be prevented, and incidentally, the cost'of the article will be re-.
duced to a minimum. t
To these ends theinvention consists in' the combination and construction of parts hereinafter more particularly set forth and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1. is a. side elevation of the completed brush, showing the casing. of the package engaged with the brush head to serve as a handle therefor; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal' sectional view through the pack shaving materials being collapsed and sealed therein; Fig.3 is a perspective .view of the collapsible cup, showing the same folded and ready to roll; Fig. 4 is a similar view of the cup when expanded and mounted in a permanent holder; and, Fig. 5 is a longitudinal sectional view of the brush head alone.
1 Referring to the drawings by numerals, and particularly to Fig. 2, 1 designates the outer casing which is constructed preferably of cardboard, though it is to be understood that it maybe constructed of metal or any other. ,i'naterial which is found in It is shownin the present drawings also as being sul. stantially cylindrical in form, but it may Specification of Letters Patent.

'have any other convenient cross-sectional contour. \Vithin this casing the shaving materials, consisting in this instance of the cup 2 and the brush head 3, are fitted, they being enveloped by a sealed, sanitary placed in the said wrapper.
The cup 2, .which is shown in detail in Fig. 3. must possess the qualities of col; lapsibility by folding and. by rolling the same around the brush head so as to, inclose the samepartially, whereby the bristles-of the latter will be protected and they) ckgc may be made to occupy a minima f" i i of space. A well known form of coil apsible cup is illustrated in the drawings, but it is to be understood that any-othercup having the qualifications mentionedmay be employed. The cup is impregnated with shaving soap by dipping the same in a liquid body of the latter, it being necessary merely to coat the inner surface of'the cup wholly or in part with the liquid soap. This man-. ner of affording sufficient soap'for ready use in shaving is considered preferable, to placing a cake or small piece of soap within the package, though the latter expedient .may be resorted to in practice if found desirable. The coating of soap will be so thin These materials must Ireces" sarily be properly sterilized before being and plastic as not to-interfere with the folding or rollingof the cup when collapsed. If theinner surface of the cup alone is coated with soap, the outer surfaceof the same may be coated with paraffin or other waterproofing substance, but thisis, not absolutely essential, owing to the temporary nature of the use of this. cup.
The brush head, which is shown in detail in Fig. 5. of the drawing, consists of a doubled bundle of bristles 5, securedmedially by a wire binder (l, or, the like, the base end of which bundle is'fitted snugly within a band 7. The casing 1 of the package is adapted to serveeventually as a handle for the brush, and is, with this purpose in View,
provided at one end with a -reduced, open ended extension 8, whichatl'ords a socket in which the base band 7 of the brush head is adapted to fit, in the manner shown in Fig. 1.
.In Fig; 4 of the drawing, the cup when expanded is shown mounted withina holder 9, which latter is to be provided for permanent use by. each barber of any shop in which the invention is to be used. This ihdlder is intended ti) be similar. to those -used'at soda fountains to hold' the glasses in which liquid refreshmentszire dispensed.
The advantages of the use of a sanitary {shavingputfit package of thIriat-ure described are ina'nifoiii and should be readily apparent from the "following description of .;themanner;0f glSB-LffWhen a customer enters" a' barber. fshQp,"' v \;here1n V a Y vending machine aconltammg -the {sanitary packages vis located,
