TOILET ARTICLE.
v Application filed September 9, 1924, Serial No.'736,719. Renewed October 29, 1926.
This invention relates to toilet articles and has for its object the provision of means whereby a brush, comb and mirror may be arranged in compact form and especially adapted for the convenience of travelers. The invention seeks to provide a structure in which a mirror and comb may be housed within the bacl: of a brush and easily withdrawn whenever desired for use and includes means for retaining the comb and mirror within the back of the brush without the use of complicated latcaing devices. Incidental objects of the invention will appear in the course of the following description, and the invention resides in certain novel features which will be particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a central longitudinal section of an article embodying our invention;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same 3 Fig. is a central horizontal section through the back of the brush, the mirror and comb being removed;
Fig. 4 is a plan view of the mirror and comb-carrying member removed from the brush, and
Fig. 5 is an end elevation of the brush with the comb and mirror removed.
The brush comprises a back 1 and bristles 2 which may be of the usual general out line, the bristles being secured in one face of the brush in any approved manner As shown in the accompanying drawings, the back comprises a base or bristle-carrying member 8, an intermediate frame l secured upon the said base member and a top or cap member 5 secured over the intermediate frame. These parts may be formed separately and secured together in any approved manner or they may be formed in one integral structure, it being noted that the cap or top member 5 is of less length than the base member 3 and the intermediate frame l is of such form as to extend marginally upon the base member and is coter minous with the cap member, thereby providing a chamber 6 in which the comb and mirror may be housed. The cap member is preferably of the same general outline as the base member 3 so as to impart a pleasing appearance to the article, and a handle member or block 7 is provided to fit upon the projecting end of the base or carrying member 8 and abut the'e'nds of the intermediate frame et and the cap 5, as shown clearly in Figs. 1 and 2. This handle member or block is provided adjacent its lower side with a recess or notch, indicated at 8, which is adapted to receive one end of a mirror 9 and also an end of a pocketor casing 10 of fibrous or other suitable material. This casing 10 may be of leather doubled upon itself transversely intermediate its ends so as to provide a fold 11 fitting snugly within the recess 8 between the upper wall ofsaid' recess and the back of the mirror 9 and having its side edges secured together whereby an intermediate pocket is formed to receive and hold the comb 12. If so desired, a notch 13 maybe provided in the under side of the handle member or block 7 mirror in such position that its surface will not be scratched or otherwise marred through cont-act with the back of the base member 3, we provlde a cushion 14, preferably of rubber, which is secured upon the back member 3 at the end of the frame 4 and is adapted to extend under the end of the mirror when thelatter is housed within the brush back, as shown in Fig. 4-. The frictional cont-act between the face of the mirror and this cushion will hold the mirror and the comb within the brush back against accidental withdrawal and, while we prefer and have shown a mat or cushion of rubber, it will be understood that any other suitable yieldable support for the mirror may be employed.
To permit the user to obtain a firm gri upon the device, the sides of the brush bac are formed with shallow recesses or depressions 15 in which the fingers of the user may be engaged, and. to facilitate the withdrawal of the block '7 when the use of the mirror or the comb is desired, the ends of the frame the cap 5 are notched. or
cut away, as shown at 16, so that the end portions or corners of the block 7 n'iay be easily engaged so that its removal will be facilitated.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection With the accompanying drawings it Will he seen that we have provided an exceedingly simple and compact article in Which a brush, a comb and a. mirror will be contained so that they Will be always accessible Whenevertheir use isvn'eeded and may be placed Within a very small space within a traveling bag or kit. The construction is simple and the article may be produced at a very low cost.
Having thus described the invention, We claim:
1. A toilet article comprising a brush having a chambered back a block removably fitted to the back of the brush and adapted to close the end of. the chamberedportion thereof, said block having a recess in its inner end to receive a mirror and a comb-can rying pocket, and a cushion Within the chambered portion of the brush back adapted to frlctlonally engage the mirror and retain the same and said block upon the brush back. 7 y
2. A toilet article comprising a, brist ecarrying plate, a cap arranged over said plate and terminating short of one end thereof, an intermediate marginal frame be tween and connecting the cap and the said plate and coterminons with the cap whereby a chamber is defined between the cap and the plate, a block contra-mine to the bristle-carryingplate andv the cap and abnoting: the ends the cap and the internmdiate tram-c, a mirror and a comb-r pocket secured to the said block and receivable Within the intermediate frame and between the cap and the bristle-carrying plate, and means upon the bristle-carr ving plate to frictionally retain the said block thereon, the ends of-the intermediate frame and the cap being recessed to facilitate withdrawal of the said block from the lnistle'carrying plate.
In testimony whereof We atliX our signatures. I
