' Specification of Lettersggatenta' To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known thatwe-{Fng NK HERRMANN and O'r'ro H. A. H-ERRM NN, citizens of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings, State of New York, have .invented certain new and useful Improve- This invention relates to gas stoves and has special reference to portable gas stoves adapted for use in connection with the ordinary gas jet or burner.
One important object of the invention is to provide an improved and simplified unitary structure which may be cast in one piece and which will be economical to manufacture and of such characteras to be practically impossible to get out of order.
A. second important object of the invention is to provide means for properly distributing the gas so as to produce an even heating of an article placed on the stove.
A third important object of the invention is to provide an improved structure having a peculiar form of flame guard in comiection therewith.
With the above and other objects in view,
' as will be hereinafter apparent the invention consists in general of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and specifically claimed.
In the accompanying drawing, like characters of reference indicate like parts in the several views, and
-Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the device in use on a gas stove.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the device.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the device.
Fig.- 4: is a vertical median section through the device.
In carrying out the objects of the present invention there is provided a body portion the lower part of which forms a1bowlshaped structure 10 while the upper part formsa similar bowl shaped structure 11, the upper bowl being of greater diameter and relatively flatter than the lower bowl 10. The bottom 12 of the upper bowl 11 is downwardly curved so that the bottom 1s convexed so that at the same time th1s bottom 12 forms: the top. of the bowl 10, the top...
being thus concaved. rm, ectingdown. from the center of the, bottom of 7 the bowl '10 is.
a tube13 which is adapted to fit on the usual that there will be no escape of gas between the burner and the tube 13. Drilled around the periphery of the bottom 12 is a series of holes 14 from which the gas contained in the receptacle formed by the bowl 10 escapes. It will be noted that by the downward curvature or bulging of the bottom 12 the gas which flows in through the neck 13 is spread laterally so that it passes evenly out of the holes or openings 14, thus en'- abling it to be lighted at these points and produce an even ring flame.
The upper edge of the bowl 11 is flanged outwardly as at 15 and also flanged inwardly as at 16, the flanges forming continuations of each other.
By reason of the flange 16 the flame which is spread by the pan or other article set on the stove will not pass out around the edges of the pan but will be deflected by the flange 16.
' In order to provide for theescape of the products of combustion there is employed a plurality of openings 17 formed in the side We... l i
r mmed case; 1,9152;
gas burner, the fit being tightenough so wall of the bowl 11, these openings being preferably three in number although other numbers may be used if desired without affecting the principle of the invention.
From the foregoing construction it will be seen that the entire device may be readily cast of thin metal, cores being employed in the bowls 10 and 11, the only machinery necessary being the drilling of the holes 14: and reaming out of the neck '13 to the proper fit, although it may be desirable to face ofl' the flanges 15 and 16.
'There has thus been provided a simple and efiicient device of the kind described and for the purpose specified.
It is'obvious that many. minor changes may be made in the form and construction of the invention without departing from prop- I and an upper bowl like portion, the upper portion being wider and relatively shallower than the lower portion, the bottom of the. upper portion being downwardly bulged and forming the top of the lower bowl said bottom being provided with an annular series of gas escape openings adjacent its periphery, the upper bowl having a peripheral series of openings adjacent its edge for the escape of the products of combustion, an inwardly extending flame deflecting flange on the edge of theupper bowl and a centrally disposed depending neck formed centrally of the lower bowl and arranged to 15 fit a gas jet or burner.
In testimony whereof, we aifix our signatures in the presence of two witnesses.
FRANK HERRMANN. OTTO H. A. HERRMANN.
