CRUDE-OIL BURNER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 10, 1915.
Application med December 18, 1914. Serial No. 877,555.
To (1H 'w71 om 'it may concern lie it known that 1, JosnrH S. PATRICK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oklahoma city. in the county of Oklahoma, State of Oklahoma. have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Crude-Oil Burners; and 1 do hereby declare the following to be a full` clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertaius to make and use the same.
'lhis invention relates to improvements in oil burners.
One object of the invention is to provide au oil burner which is simple in construction and effective in use.
Another object is to provide an oil burner of such construction that the flame will be greatly diffused.
Another object is to provide an oil burner which will attain great heat and retain the same.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is an elevation of my burner, Fig. 2 is a top plan view, Fig. 3 is a transverse section on the line 3-3 of I ig. 2, and Fig. 4 is an enlarged fragmentn ry plan view of one edge of the lower concave disk.
Referring particularly to the accompanying drawings, represents a ring, the periphery of which is transversely eoncavoconvex to provide a circumferential drip pan or trough 11. Disposed over the open renter of the ring is an upwardly bowed concave-convex disk l2, the periphery of which is provided with a plurality of lugs 18 eut away as at 14 to pass through the opening of the ring and rest thereon. Disposed above the disk 12 is a second disk 15, the same being also concavo-convex and properly spaced above the disk 12 to provide a generating space or chamber 16. The periphery of the disk 15 has .formed therein a circumfereutially extending angular cutaway portion 17 which conforms to the peripheral edge of the disk 12 and is spaced therefrom to provide the gas outlet channel 18 which extends completely around the device. Mounted on the upper edge of the drip pan or trough l1 are a plurality of vcrtically extending lugs 19, the upper portions of which are formed with transverse concaved seats 20 in which is supported a ring21. A plurality of spheres 22 of {ireclay or other fire resisting substance are disposed over the space between the ring 21 and the periphery of the disk 15, and resting on Said ring and disk. These spheres are of such size that they touch throughout the whole series around the burner. In the center of the disk 15 is an opening through which oil is introduced through the generating chamber 16, the same being converted into gas and issuing through the channel 18 where it burns over the drip pan. The flame of the gas will be diii'used by the fireclay spheres, and by reason of the said spheres an intensely hot flame will be produced.
What is claimedis:
A burner comprising a ring` having a circumferential trough at the outer edge thereof, a burner disk supported above the ring, vertical lugs carried by the outer edge of the ring. a second ring supported on the lugs, and a circular series of tire-resisting spheres resting on the second-named ring on the edge of the burner disk.
1n testimony whereof, I aiiix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
