To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, THOMAS Barron Hon- DERNESS, a citizen of the United States, residing at De Kalb, in the county of Dekalb and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gas- Burner Attachments; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to gas, gasolene and other forms of stoves, and more particularly to an attachment designed for saving heat or utilizing the same to the fullest possible extent, and my object therefore is to provide means which will accomplish a maximum amount of heating with the use of a minimum amount of fuel.
A further object of my invention is to provide improved means whereby the heat from a single burner will be directed for the purpose of heating two separate and distinct vessels.
Other obj ects and advantages will be hereinafter made clearly apparent, reference being had to the accompanying drawings which are made a part of this application and in which Figure 1 shows a perspective view of my invention complete, ready for use upon a gas or gasolene or other form of stove. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional View. Fig. 3 is a transverse section on the line 33 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a perspective detail view of a special form of lid designed for one of the burners, and, Fig. 5 shows in perspective the ring-like members.
In order to conveniently refer to the various parts of my invention, numerals will be employed, and referring to the numerals on the drawings, 1 and 2 indicate a pair of ring-like members, open at both their top and bottom sides and designed to fit directly over two adjacent burners of a gas, gasolene or other form of stove, said members 1 and 2 being formed with the connecting sections 3 and 4, which are left open on their ends and under sides but entirely closed upon their upper side, as clearly shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3. I prefer to incline the walls of the members 1 and 2, substantially as shown, and it is also important that the connecting members 3 be of suflicient length to dispose the ring-like members 1 and 2 directly over pairs of burners at different distances apart upon the stove.
The members 3 and 4 are made telescopic, as shown in Fig. 5 whereby the ring-like members 1 and 2 may be moved toward or away from each other, as desired, to insure that they may be properly located relative to the burners. Each of the ring-like members is provided with'members 8 and 4:, one of which is of sufficient size to nest within or telescope the other, whereby the ring-like members 1 and 2 may be drawn away from each other or moved closer together as preferred. I also provide the cover section 5 of suflicient diameter to fit upon the top edge of one of the members 1 and 2, the said cover section 5 being provided with an opening of proper size to accommodate smaller sized cooking vessels. The position shown by the lid section 5 is indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 2. Upon the edge of one of the ringlike members 1 and 2, as indicated by the numeral 6, I provide a plurality of recesses or notches, said recesses being designed to facilitate the escape of heat after it has passed upward in contact with the bottom of the vessel sitting over the ring-like member 1 and has thence passed through the member 3 into the ring-like member 2, en gaging with the bottom of the vessel sitting thereon, thence passing out of said recesses 6. It will thus be seen that I have provided thoroughly reliable and efficient means for conserving the amount of heat generated by one of the burners, whereby it will pass from the burner surrounded by the member 1, through the connecting members 8 and 4, and thence out through the open end of the member 2 or through the recesses 6 if a vessel should be placed upon the said member 2.
