1 all whom "ma 1 concern I Be it known that I W'ALrER H. Hrsnr, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Toledo, in the county of Lucas and State of Ohio, have made an Invention Appertaining to a Burner, which invention is fully set forth in the following specification.
This invention relates to dental laboratory appliances, and particularly to burners for use in connection with the elimination of u an from investments used in the making of inlay castings.
The object of the invention is the provision of a simple and improved burner of the class described, which is novel in construction, highly efficient in its operation and adapted to support an investing ring in position to have the burner flames directed against the side thereof.
The invent-ion is fully described in the following specification, and While, in its broader aspect it is capable of embodiment in numerous forms, a preferred en'ibodiment thereof is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in WlliGll,
Figure 1 is a top plan view of a burner embodying the invention. Fig. 2 is a section thereof on the line 2-2 in Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a reduced perspective view of the burner with an invested ring mounted in position thereon.
The burner embodying the invention is preferably of ring form and has the inner and outer vertically extending annular walls 1 and 2 with top and bottom connecting walls and 4: forming the annular gas chamber 5 and also forming within the wall 1 an elongated vertical air passage 6 through theburner, said passage being open at its top and bottom. The bottom wall f of the burner is provided with a plurality of radially disposed ribs 7 preferably of shallow form which. form supporting legs for the burner and maintain the burner body a sufficient dissubj acent support to permit air to pass under the gas burner and up through the passage 6.
The top wall 3 of the burner is preferably flat a distance outward from its inner edge and is then in upwardly looped connection with the outer wall 2 to provide a ledge 8 around the flat inner portion of the wall 3. The chamber 5 extends up into the ledge 8 preferably a distance above the topplane of the wall 3, and the inner portion of the ledge 8 is provided with a plurality of Serial No. 619,035.

These orifices extend inward from the ledge 8 so as to direct the streams. of ignited gas discharging therefrom against an invested ring 10, which is mounted on the burner top in inwardly spaced relation to the ledge 8.
In order that the invested ring 10 when mounted on the top of the burner may not entirely close the upper end of the air passage 6, the ring is smaller than such passageway and is supported thereover by fingers 11 projecting inward from the inner edge of the top wall 3 of the burner and forming an open grating construction over the air passage 6. p
The proper combustion mixture of gas and air is supplied to the burner chamber 5 through a pipe 12 which has communication with any suitable source of supply.
The burner ring is provided equidistantly therearound at the lower edge portion of the outer wall 2 with a plurality of lugs or ribs 13, intended to support a cylindrical enclosing shell or chimney (not shown), which projects above the burner and protects the flames from side drafts.
I wish it understood that my invention is not limited to any specific construction, arrangement or form of the parts, as it is capable of numerous modifications and changes without departing from the spirit of the claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is,-
1. In a burner, an outer wall, an inner wall spaced from the outer wall to form a gas chamber, said walls being of relatively considerable length and arranged in substantial parallelism and the inner wall being open at its top and bottom to form an elongated air passage, a perforated top wall and a bottom wall connecting the inner and outer walls, radially disposed depending ribs connected to the bottom wall and forming supporting legs for the device to hold the bottom of the latter spaced above a supporting surface, a series of spaced fingers connected at their outer ends to the points of juncture of the inner and top walls and having their inner ends spaced and terminating adjacent to the axis of the air passage, a series of vertical ribs extending outwardly from the outer wall and arranged in spaced CJI ' top wall and a bottom surrounding relation thereto, and an invested ring seated on said fingers and having its periphery spaced from the inner circumference of the inner wall so as to allow air to flow upwardly in alinement with the spaces between the inner circumference of the inner wall and the periphery of the ring and in the spaces between the fingers.
2. In a burner, an outer wall, an inner wall spaced from the outer wall to form a gas chamber, the inner wall being open at its top and bottom to form an air passage, a wall connecting the inner and outer walls, a series of spaced horizontal fingers connected to the inner having its periphery spaced from the inner 20 vclrcumference of the inner wall so as to allow air to flow upwardly in alinement with the spaces between the inner circumference oil the inner wall and the periphery of the ring and in the spaces between the fingers, so as to be divided into a series of vertical streams by the fingers.
