GAS-BURNER ATTACHMENT.
specification of Letters Patent. Patented 00113.. 16, 191i 7. I
. Application filed November 8, i916. Serial No. 130,198.
Toall whom it may concern:
Be it known thatl, Bonner B. Coon, a
citizen of the United States, residing at "Lancaster, in thecounty of Fairfield and 4 State of Ohio, have invented certain new .and useful Improvements in Gas-Burner Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to devices inqwhich.
inflammable gases are employed as a fuel, and has for one of its objects to provide a simply constructed device adapted to be utilized in coaction with various forms of gas burners, more particularly devices of this character forming a part of gas cooking stoves, ranges and the like, to economize in the use of the gas.
in the claims; and in the drawings illustra tive of the preferred embodiment of the invention- Figure 1 is a plan vlew of the improved device.
Fig. 2 is a transverse section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. I
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2, illustrating a modification in the construction.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
The improved device includes an annular outer member represented as a whole at 10 and having, vertical sides, or in band shape, with a plurality of recesses 11 in its lower edge to provide for the free passage of air between the member 10 and the structure upon which. it rests. The improved device is designed to be located upon the upper face of a stove or range in which gas is employed as a fuel, with the rim portion 10 entirely inclosing the burner, not shown. Located centrally of the rim portion 10 is a portion including a ring or annular member 12, a central hub 13 and a plurality of radial bars 14 connecting the members 12-48, as shown in Fig. 1. The upper faces of the members the gas.
12l314: are on the same level and are I located above theupper line of the member 10, as shown in Fig. 2.
Extending between the rim member 10 and the annular member 12 is an inwardly and upwardly curving web indicated as a whole at 15, and provided with a plurality of apertures 16 for the upward passage of The lower face of the web thus curves constantly inwardly and upwardly and merges without obstruction into the annular central portion. The web 15 is united at its outer periphery to the member 10. near itslower edge, as shown in Fig. 2, so that the member 10 projects for a considerable distance above the outer portion of the web, and forms a guard to the burning gas as it rises through the apertures 16.
The vessel whose contents are to be heated by the burning gas is located upon the member 12 as indicated by dotted lines 17 and the rising flames and heat products impinge against the lower face of the web and the major portion passes without obstruction through the annular central portion 12, while the remaining portion of the flame and heat products pass upwardly through the apertures 16 and impinge against the bottom of the vessel and all of the flame and heat products are deflected thereby over the upper edge of the member 10, the latter thus operating as a guard to prevent the dissemination of the gas by confining the gas to the space within the area of the member 10, and causing it to remain in contact with the vessel supported, as above described, upon themember 12.
The vertically directed guard rim 10 is thus an important feature of applicants device and materially increases its efficiency and utility.
The improved device is constructed from a single casting, preferably annealed to enable it to withstand the heat to which it will be subjected when in use, and may be of any required size to adapt it to the burner or construction of the stove with which it is to coact. 7
If preferred the device may be constructed as shown in Fig. 3. v
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is 1. A device of the class described comprising a body adapted to be disposed over a burner and including an annular outer portion with vertical sides and an annular central portion, said annular central portion extending above the upper line of the annular outer portion, and a perforated web connected to the annular outer portion near its lower edge and curving constantly inwardly and upwardly and merging Without obstruction into the annular central portion, where by the major portion of the, names from the burner is guided. inwardly and upwardly toward and caused to pass through the anportion.
2. A device of the class deseribedcomprising a body adapted to be disposed over a Copies 'of this patent'may be obtained for burner and including an annular outer portion with Vertical sides and an annular central portion; and a perforated web connected to the annular outer portion near its lower edge and curving constantly inwardly and upwardly and merging Without obstruction into the annular central portion, whereby the major portion of the flames from the burner is guided inwardly and upwardly toward and caused to pass through theani In testimony whereof I afliX mysignature.
