To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHANN MARTIN BOECKH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lindenhurst, L. 1., in the county of Suffolk, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collars; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and. use the same.

This invention is an improvement in wearing apparel and has particular reference to a collar. I

An object of the invention is to dispense with the use of collar buttons in fastening the collar to the neck band of a shirt and, for this purpose, the ends of a collar are each provided with a locking tongue and a tongue receiving socket, the tongue of one end being inserted through a loop carried by the shirt and thus engaged in the socket of the other end of the collar, after which the tongue of the last named end is inserted into trating the present invention, is shown in the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the intermediate portion of the collar secured to a shirt.

Referring more particularly to the accompanying drawing in which like reference characters indicate similar parts, the numeral 5 indicates a shirt having the usual neck band 6 to one end of which is secured a loop 7 adapted to be passed through a button-hole 8 in the other end of said neck band.

The end of the collar which is usually first attached to the neck band has secured thereto upon the inner side of the inner section 15 an elongated locking tongue 17 which is first extended through the loop 7. This tongue 17 is then passed'through a transverse slot 18 formed in said end of the col lar, after which the free end of said locking tongue is inserted into a socket 19 formed in the opposite end of the collar and in the inner surface of the inner section thereof.

- The end of the collar opposite that to which the locking tongue 17 is secured also has a second locking tongue 20 secured to the inner surface of the inner section 15 adj acent its end, and after the locking tongue 17 has been adjusted as just described, the free end of the tongue 20 is inserted into a socket 21 formed in the outer surface of the inner section 15 of the collar adjacent the transverse slot 18 through which the locking tongue 17 is extended, and after the end of the inner section 15, to which the locking tongue '20 is secured, is inserted between the inner and outer sections 15 and 16 the col- VVhat is claimed is 1. A collar having a locking tongue secured to the inner surface of the inner section thereof adjacent each end and also having a socket formed on the inner surface of the inner section adjacent one end for receiving the locking tongue secured to the other end, and a similar socket formed upon the outer surface of the inner section of the other end for receiving the locking tongue secured to the first named end, one of the ends of said inner section being also provided with a slot through which is extended the locking tongue carried by said end.

3. The combination with the neck band of a shirt having a loop carried thereby, of a collar having a locking tongue secured to has been inserted through said loop and slot.

4. The combination With the neck band of a shirt having a loop carried thereby, of a collar having a locking tongue secured to one end thereof and a slot adjacent said tongue, said tongue being insertible through said loop and said slot, the other end ofsaid collar having a socket for receiving the free end of said locking tongue after the same has been inserted through said loop and slot, and a second locking tongue carried by the end of the collar having a socket for engaging in a similar socket formed in the first named end of the collar.
