Description

A. HELLENBERG.
SAMPLE-CARDS FOR COLLARS AND NECKTIES.
No.180,879. Patented Aug. 8, 1876.
WA/messeg. fL wvewcw. Km o mwwx MA ma UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
'ADOLPH HELLENBERG, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN SAMPLE-CARDS FOR COLLARS AND NECK-TIES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. [80,879, dated August 8, 1876; application filed July 14, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ADOLPH HELLENBERG, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in SampleOards for Collars and Neck-Ties, which improvement is fully .set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 represents a front view of my card when empty. Fig. 2 is a like view thereof, containing a collar and neck-ties.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
My invention consists in a sample-card which is provided with the usual slits for the reception of the shields of one or more neckties, and provided with a hole for receiving a button near one of its edges, which button is intended forthe attachment of a shirt-collar, the end portions of that edge of the card contiguous to which the button is placed being chamfered or cut away in such a manner that the back part of the collar may be adjusted v on or over the said edge, and its ends turned round the card and fastened to the button, as hereinafter more fully explained.
In the drawing, the letter A designates a sample-card made according to my invention. This card is preferably made of pasteboard,
and of an oblong shape. b are the slits in which the shields of the neck-ties O are inserted. The number ofthese slits may be such as toaccommodate either a single necktie or a number of them, as in the example shown. d is the collar-button, which is situated contiguous to one or the upper edge of the card A, and which is aflixed to the card by being passed through a hole formed at the proper point. The two corners of that edge of the card A contiguous to which the button 01 is placed are cut away at an angle of about forty-five degrees, more or less, as seen at e c, Fig. 1. I am thus enabled to adjust the rear part of a collar, F, on or over the top edge of the card A, bringing the front or turn-down part of such collar on one side of the card, and the inner part thereof on the other side, while its ends may be turned round the chamfered edges 0 e and fastened to the button d, in the same manner as a collar is fastened to a shirt.
When the collar F has been fastened a necktie is preferably affixed to or under its ends, as clearly seen in Fig. 2, the whole being so arranged that this neck-tie is in line with those fastened to the card.
By this means I obtain a sample-card for exhibiting both a collar and neck-ties, and which has the advantage that these articles are held in like relation to each other, as when worn.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A sample-card for collars and neck-ties, provided with chamfered edges 6 c, with a hole for receiving a button, d, and with slits b, the whole arranged substantially as hereinbefore set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 10th day of July, 1876.
