Description

Jan. 13, 1925.
A. M. MALOUF GARTER Filed June 16, 1924 Patented dan. 13, `1925.
ABRAHAM M. MALOUF, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
GARTER,
Application filed June 16, 1924. Serial No. 720,267.
To all whom t 'may concern.'
Be it known that l, ABRAHAM M. MALoUr, a citizen of the United States, residing at N ew York, in the county o-f Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Garter, of which the following is a specification.
The device forming the subject matter of this application is a garter of that general sort shown in my prior Patent No. 1,454,754, granted on May 8, 1923.
The object of this invention is so to construct a garter that one step in the manufacture of the garter shown in the patent alluded to may be omitted, that step consisting in cutting off the tongue.
It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the invention appertains.
With the above and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that, within the scope of what is claimed, changes in the precise embodiment of the invention shown, can be made, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Figure 1 shows in front elevation, a garter constructed in accordance with the invention; Figure 2 is a longitudinal section of the garter. Figure 8 is a fragmental elevation showing the utility of the present improvements, as compared with a garter constructed in accordance with the patent above identified by number; and Figure 4 is a longitudinal section of the device depicted in Figure 3.
The device shown in Figures 1 and 2 Ycomprises a flexible strap 5, the strap ordinarily being inelastic and being formed into a long main loop 6 comprising' an inner member 7 and an outer member 8, the outer member 8 being extended to form the inner member 11 of a short depending auxiliary loop 9, the outer member of which is denoted by the numeral 10, the inner member 11 of the auxiliary loop 9, being located between the outer member of the auxiliary loop 9 and the outer member 8 of the main loop 6, the outer member 10 of the auxiliary loop 9 being continued to fashion a depending tongue 12 located between the inner member 7 of t-he main loop 6 and the outer member 8 of the said loop, the members 7, 8, 11 and 10, and the tongue 12, being connected in any suitable way, for instance, by stitching 14. A rider 3 is mounted to slide on the outer 6o member S of the main loop 6 and has a stud 15 adapted to be engaged with a loopshaped keeper 1 mounted in the auxiliary loop 9.
ln my prior' Patent N o. 1,454,754, granted 65 on May 8, 1923, and in Figures 3 and 4 of the drawings of the present case, there is shown a device of the class described, lcomprising a strap 20, fashioned into a main loop 21 including an inner member 22 and an outer member 23, the outer member being extended to form the outer member 24 of an auxiliary loop 25, the inner member 26 of the auxiliary loop terminating in a tongue 28 located between the inner member 26 of the auxiliary loop and the outer member 23 of the main loop 21, the fastening means appear'- ing at 29 and the keeper at 27.
Owing to the way in which the device Shown in Figures 3 and 4 of the drawings is e manufactured, it is not possible to have the tongue 28 as short as shown in Figure 4 when the device is stitched as at 29, nor is it possible to have the tongue 12 of Figure 2 as short as the tongue28 and still stitch r the parts as at 10. The tongue 28, in practice, has a long depending end 35, as in Figure 3, extending below the short auxiliary loop 25; and this end 35 has to be cut olf, thereby necessitating an additional step in the making of the device. In the form shown in Figures l and 2, the step which consists in cutting off the tongue is not necessary because the tongue 12 is located between the members 7 and 8 of the long main loop 6, the loop 6 being of such length that it will always house the tongue 12.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:
A device of the class described, comprising a flexible strap formed into a main loop comprising' an inner member and an outer member, the outer member being extended to form the inner member of an auxiliary loop which is shorter than Jthe main loop, the inner member of the auxiliary loop being continued to form the outer member of the auxiliary loop, the outer member of the auxiliary loop terminating in a tongue housed between the inner and outer members of tlieman loo-p, means for Connecting both a members of each loop and the tongue, rider slidalole on the outer member of the main loop, and a keeper suspended in the auxiliary loop and cooperating With the rider.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing a nature in the presence s my oWn, I have hereto afxed my sigofV two Witnesses.
ABRAHAM M. MALOUF.
