Be it known that I, BERNARD GERLA, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Concealed Clasps, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to necktie clips such as are commonly used to secure the ends of a four-in-hand tie to the shirt, to hold the tie ends neatly in position.

The present invention which is a further development of one disclosed in a previous application for patent filed by me on April 6, 1928, under Serial No. 630,245 and has for a general object the provision of a simple and inexpensive form of tie clip which will engage and secure both ends of the tie, and will be invisible when in place.

For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.

Referring now to Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing my improved tie clip is here formed of a single strip of resilient sheet metal which is folded upon itself to form three reaches which are indicated respectively at 10, 11 and 12, the strip being of greatest width at the point where the two reaches 10 and 11 join together.

These two elements 10 and 11 are inclined toward one another from their joined ends toward their other ends, the last named end of the element being in the form of a backwardly curved lip 13 extending slightly beyond the element 11. The edge of the shirt is a side view thereof. 3 is a perspective View of modificaand the inner tie end are received between these two elements 10 and 11, and to aid in gripping the said parts, projections 14 may be formed on the adjacent faces ofthese two elements.

In the use of my improved tie clip as just described the shirt and inner tie endare gripped between the elementslO and 11 as above stated and then the pointed element 12 is passed through the back element of the outer tie. end andsprung under the tongue 17. The two tie ends are thus held'in place,

as will be apparent, while the clip is concealed by the outer tie end. i

The clip shown in Fig. 3 differs from that shown in Figs. 1 and 2 only in the slightly different form of the tongue 17 for engaging the element, the root of this tongue being turned toward the element 12, while the tongue is curved backwardly with its ere treme end downturncd toward the element 11, and notched as at 18'.

The form shown in Figs. 4i and 5 is in the main similar to that shown in Figs. 1 and 2, differing only in thata second tongue 30, is struck from the intermediate element 11 and is curved in bow form into the space between the elements 10 and 11 and is adapted to have its free end press outwardly on the pin element 12 to lock the same in place engag- ,ing the tongue 17, when the shirt and outer tieend are inserted between the parts 10 and 11.

The form shown in Fig. 7 differs from that shown in Fig. 6 only in having the pin 20 corrugated and in omitting the lugs 25.

lVhile I have shown and described a pre ferred embodiment and use of my improved concealed clasp it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise. construction herein disclosed nor tothe use ofthe same only for necktie clasp but also for invisible lingerie strap clasp, hair clasp, or for other uses, and the right is reserved toall changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to. protect by Letters Patent of the United States is as follows:

1. A tie clip comprising a flat strip of metal doubled upon itself to form an intermediate reach and two outer reaches, one of the outer reaches being pointed to form a -free end beyond the adjacent end of the intermediate reach, said free end being in the dorm of an outwardly curved lip, and a safety catch in the form of a tongue struck out fromisaid' intermediate reach for engaging the free end of said pointed reach.

A tie clip comprising a fiat strip of metal doubled upon itself to "form an interm'edia'teand two outer reaches, one of the outerreaches being pointed to form a pin, a safety'catch on said intermediate reach for engaging the free end of said pointed reach, and a tongue struck out from said intermediate. reach and adapted to bear on said pointed reach at a distance from the free end of the latter to retain the said free end engaged with said safety catch.

4;. A tie clip comprising a fiat strip of metal doubled upon itself to form three reaches presenting separate pockets, one of said reaches being pointed to form a pin, and a safety catch for engaging the said pointed reach, said pointed reach, being formed with transverse corrugations.
