Specification of Letters Patent.- Patefited Dec. 15,1914. I
Application filed February 24, 1912. Serial No. 679,791.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, STANLEY L.' G*JDNEY, citizen of the United States, residing at This invention relates to necktie holders.
One object is to provide a necktie holder which may be readily applied. to the wearers shirt and necktie to clamp the latter and effectually hold the tie taut.
Another object is to provide a s1mple,,1r 1- expensive, durable and ornamental necktie holder which may be readily disconnected from its application as well as applled for the purposes herein stated.
Another object of my invention is to provide a necktie clasp constructed from a single piece of sheet metal having cutout portions to obtain a clasp of light welght and of skeleton-like formation.
\Vith the above and other objects in view the present invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim, it
being understood that changes may be made in the form, proportion, size and minor details, without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the 1nvention as defined by the scope of the appended claim.
In the drawings :F igure 1 is a front view of a portion of a shirt and collar illustrating a necktie secured to the shirt by my improved holder. Fig. 2 is a plan View. Fig. 3 is a side view. Fig. 4 is a plan view illustratin the material out of which my improved older is formed.
Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawings the reference character 1 indicates a shirt, 2 a collar, and 3 a.
necktie.
As will be seen by reference to Fig. 4 my improved holder is preferably Stampedout of a single piece of metal or other suitable material and has all of its edges rounded so as to obviate cutting edges as well as to provide for ornamentation. Qut of this single piece of material shown in Fig. 4 my improved holder is formed and it is indicated generally by the reference character A the single piece of material being enlarged at one end, as at 6, and terminating in the long narrow extension, as at 5. The ends NITED STATES; PATENT oF i'c of said single piece of materialare cut out,
as shown, leaving the web 4 intermediate the ends of said piece of material, the said from the center of the single piece of material. At this web 4, the single piece of material is bent upon itself to provide clasp ing members 5 and 6, each by virtue of the respective cutout portions including spaced parallel side portions connected at their outer ends by bight portions, as shown. The bending of the materialv at its said 'web beingdisposed preferably slightly 01f web 4 provides an eye 7 resulting in a spring hinge connection between the clasping members.
The clasping member 5 is preferably narrower-than the clasping member 6 and preferably of greater length than the latter with the side portions of the clasping mem- 4 ber 6 directed laterally intermediate their ends slightly beyond the plane of the side portions of the clasping member 5, whereby intermediate the ends of the clasping members clamping bends or points, as indicated of the shirt and tie together.
. To facilitate application of the holder, it
is preferred that the outer ends of the clasping members 5 and 6 be slightly curved as in dicated at 8 and 9, respectively, the curvature of both members being in the same direction and forming a throat or mouth by virtue of which the thicknesses of the shirt front and neck tie will not interfere with proper application of the holder.
The Web 4 in addition to providing for a substantial hinge connection between the clasping members also provides an enlarge- -ment when the eye 7 is formed to accommodate any bulging or rufliing of the edge of clasping members formed of a single piece. of material bent intermediate its ends pro-.
vidingv a yieldable hinge connection for the clasp members at one end, which hinge conat 8 are provided to effect a firm gripping nection also forms a finger piece, each clasp member including spaced portions each con-' being narrower and longer than the other clasp member and extending over and be-.
yond said bight portion of the other clasp member, the spaced portions of one clasp member having portions extending trans- Versely beyond the plane of the adjacent spaced portions of the other clasp member and forming spaced oppositely disposed clamping points intermediate the ends of the clasp member to clasp the tie between said spaced points and the adjacent spaced 15 portions of the other clasp member.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
STANLEY L. GEDNEY. Witnesses:
