To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ARTHUR REINHABT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Portland, in the county of Multnomah and State of Oregon, have invented a new and useful Hook, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in hooks in which the shank at one end termi nates in a sheath, the latter being fastened inseparably to some fabric, preferably to the end of an elastic band, while the point at the other end of the shank is adapted to engage any fabric detach-ably.

The objects of my invention are:

First, to produce a. hook which eliminates the eye in the customary hook and eye construction. a

Second, to construct a hook which is simple to manufacture and easy to apply.

Third, to furnish a hook which will neither mar the fabric to any appreciable extent, nor injure the skin of the wearer.

Further objects and advantages are to be 95 found in the construction and arrangement of parts as will be described hereinafter in the specification and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

I attain these objects with the mechanism :10 illustrated in the accompanying drawing,

In the manufacture of the hook first a metal blank is stamped out as shown in Fig. 3. Said blank comprises central body portion 1, wings 2 at each side of the body portion, teeth 3 at one end of the body por tion, a fiat shank eat the opposite end of the body portion, and a needle point 5 issuing from the shank with a distinctly defined shoulder between point and shank.

The teeth 3 are bent at right angles to the plane of the body portion, and the shank 4 is bent so that the needle point 5 lies substantially parallel with the plane of the body portion. The blank is thereupon placed under a suitable die, the end of the elastic band 6 is placed over the teeth far enough to cover the central body portion, and the die is manipulated to fold the wings 2 over the elastic band and provide a sheath for the said band, whereby the teeth 3 assure an inseparable connection.

This hook can be used to advantage in various ways as for instance: in hooking up dresses," for belts, neck ties, price tags, as a substitute for clasps, and in other such like cases. An elastic band with a hook at each end may take the place of a button.

In Fig. 4 is illustrated a combination of my hook with a paper clamp 7 to be used for displaying sheet music, newspapers, postal cards or pictures on a cloth covered back ground. Fig. 5 shows clearly how my hook may be advantageously combined with a garter clip 8.

The needle point being small and sharp enters easily into any fabric without leaving any noticeable mark, and no injury to the wearer is possible; another feature is that the needle point, issuing from the shank with a shoulder, possesses unusual strength.

Having thus described my invention, it will be seen that my objects have been accomplished, and, though I have shown the preferred form of construction, I reserve to myself the right to make minor changes providing I do not violate the spirit and principle of my invention.

I claim:

1. As an article of manufacture, a hook comprising a central body portion, wings at each side of the body portion, teeth at one end of the body portion, a shank at the other end of the body portion, said shank terminating in a needle point and forming a distinct shoulder to the needle point.

2. As an article of manufacture, a hook comprising a central body portion, wings at each side of the body portion, said wings being folded against the body portion and meeting with their edges near the center line, teeth at one end of the body portion, said teeth being bent at right angles to the body portion and toward the infolded wings, a flat shank at the other end of the body portion said fiat shank being bent at the free end through an angle of one hundred eighty degrees, and a needle point issuing centrally from the bent end, whereby the shank forms a distinct shoulder at both sides of the shank, an elastic band issuing from the sheath and inseparably fastened therein, a shouldered needle point at the other end of the shank, said shank being bent parallel to the elastic band and pointing in l the same direction, a distinct shoulder being formed between shank and needle point.
