Description
CHARLES N. ZIEGLER, OF GRAFTON, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN BABY-TENDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 122,546, "dated J anuary, 1872.
I, CHARLES N. ZIEGLER, of Grafton, inthe county of Lorain and State of Ohio, have invented certain Improvements in Baby-Tuulers, of which the following is a specification:
The nature of my invention relates to the peculiar construction and arrangement of a baby-tender, in such manner as to be readily adjusted to correspond with the Weight of the child, so that each and every movement of the child While seated in or on the tender will be abundantly reciprocated by it, and thus keep the child continually amused and interested in its new situation; or the person in charge of the child may impart a like movement to the tender by means of the hand or foot, as hereinafter more fully set forth, in Which- Figure l is a side View. Fig. 2 is a plan view.
F is the seat or crib, of any desired size or style, and is rigidly secured to and on one end ofthe seat-arm or arms G G, or the crib may be secured on the seat-arm or arms in a like manner, when the seat F may be arranged on or over one end of the crib. Thus the seat or crib may be used separately or together, While the other end of the arms G G are jointed to or between the standard I by any suitable means. One end of the standard I is rigidly fastened to or in thc spring bed-piece H, which is provided with cross-pieces or axles K, on which it rests. Centrally and near one end of the spring-bed piece H and standard I is arranged slot C, over a part or all of which rests one end of the spring A, which is secured to the spring-bed piece H by a bolt passing through the spring A and slot C. The seatarms G G are also so arranged as to form the slot L to correspond in length and direction equal at least to slot C. Thus, by means of the slots C and L and their retaining-bolts, the spring A may be adjusted and secured at any desired point in or on the slots C and L, by
which, the spring A may be made to have a varied and eiiective bearing on the seat-arms G G to correspond with the Weight ofthe child using the same. The cross-pieces K K on the under side of the spring-bed piece H are not only for the purpose of using Wheels, but, in case-they are not used to hold the springbed piece steady and in dependent from the iioor or Whatever the cross-pieces K K may rest upon, by Which there is obtained for the spring A the advantage of all the spring of the bed piece H, and affords the most convenient means of giving any desired movement to the child being tended, and, at the same time, the attendant may be otherwise engagedseated or standing.
I claim as my inventionl. The arrangement and combination of the adjustable spring A With the seat-arms G G bed piece H, substantially in the manner shown and set forth.
2. The combination of the strip or spring bed H, spring A, standard I, and arms G, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
3. The employment of the crib F with the seat-arm or arms G G, or equivalent, in such manner as to permit the use of the seat or crib separately or together', for the purpose set forth.
CHARLES N. ZIEGLER.
