The nature of my invention relates to an improved combined chair and lounge; and it consists in the arrangement and combination of parts, which will be more fully described hereafter, whereby the lounge can be used either as a chair or lounge and bed, as may be desired.
The accompanying drawings represent my invention.
a represents an ordinary lounge of any desired construction or finish, and to which the head-piece c is pivoted, in any suitable manner, at a short distance from one of the ends, so that it can be freely moved back and forth. The head-piece is padded alike on both sides, so that when inclined downward it is used as the head of the lounge, but when raisedvertically it becomes the back of the chair (I. To each side of this head is secured a curved rod or bar, 0, which pass downward through the guides or eyes g, which project from the side of the chair, and which serve not only as arms for the chair, but for holding the head in any desired position, by means of the set-screws i. To the back of the chair, on each side, is secured an elastic or other suitable strap, 6, which have two or more openings or holes through them, which, by catching over the stops or catches 0, regulate the distance which the back shall move or the angle at which it shall be held. Pivoted between the two legs 12 is a foot-board, a, which has a similar strap, 11, secured to each of its outer corners, and which, by means of these straps, can be raised and lowered atwill.
By the construction above described the lounge can be used as a chair alone whenever desired, or as a lounge or bed.
Having thus described my invention, I claim- 1. In combination with the lounge or frame a, the pivoted head-piece, which can be used as the head of the lounge or back of the chair, substantially as specified.
2. A combined chairand lounge, constructed of the body a, hinged part 0, adjustable straps b l, curvedarms e,'eyes g, set-screws i, and hinged foot-board u, the parts being arranged for operation substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 24th day of September, 187 3.
