IMPROVEMENT IN SPRING BED-BOTTOMS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 126,743, dated May 14, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MILo A. RIoHAnDsoN,
of Sherman, in the county Chautauqua and State of New York, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Spring Bed-Bottoms5 and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and 4operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification, and to the lette-rs and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawing is a representation of a plan view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section of the same. i
My invention has relation to spring bedbottoms; and the novelty consists in the con- -end of the frame, formed by these bars,-is slightly raisedv to enable the occupant of the' bed to assume the most comfortable position, and to allow for the depression on the springs caused by the weight thereon. D designates the continuous bed-cord, having its ends secured to the bar B, and thence passed'from the bar B to an adjustable bar, B2. d represents pegs inserted in the bars B B2 to hold the rope, which is arranged in lengths, and is run from the peg on the bar B to the next on the bar B2; thence back, and so on, as shown clearly in the drawing, or in any other way that will tend to the same result-viz., to allow the rope to be tightened by moving the bar B2 toward the foot of the bed. E designates setscrews passing through the bar B1, and thence through the bar B2, which is provided with stationary nuts e. The bar B2 is adjusted by turning said screws, which are provided with cross-heads b for convenience in operating them. f represents washers. G represents elastic arms, which are secured, nea-r the foot end of the bed, to the inner sides of the bars A by the pins, screws, or rivets a al, and eX- tend, as shown, toward the head part, where they are connected by means of a transverse bar a2; The arms G are made of wood or other suitable material, and should be of a tapering form, as shown. The greatest elasticity is between the fastening al and the bar a2. The elasticity may be regulated by changing the positions of the fastening al and of the bar a2. For this purpose holes a3 are made at the points shown. Where the arms G are fastened to the bars A washers g are placed upon the fastenings between the bars A and arms G, so as to prevent creaking when the bed is moved. Near the head end of the bed the arms G are made to converge slightly, so as to prevent them from striking the bars A, as well a-s to prevent them from rubbing against the inner surfaces of said bars.
Thebed-bottom herein described is designed to be portable. v
What I claim as my invention, and desire to m secure by Letters Patent, is
l. The springs G, arranged as described, in combination with the side bars A and transverse bar C of a spring-bed, constructed substantially as specified.
2. The spring bed-bottom, having the side bars A, transverse bars B B1, adjustable bar B2, adjusting-screws E, nuts e, handles b, and
springs G, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my naine in the presence of two witnesses.
MILO A. RICHARDSON. Witnesses:
MARK SHELDON,
W. F. WARREN.
