UNITED STATES PATENT EETGE.
ALBERT W. HIGHT, OF PRINCETON, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO HIGHT, PARKS 85 CO., OF SAME PLAGE.
IMPROVEMENT IN SPRING BED-BOTTMS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 146,453, dated January 13, 1874; application filed July 10, 1873. i
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT W. HIGHT, of Princeton, in the county of Bureau and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spring Bed-Bottoms; and I do hereby declare that thefollowing is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a double-con- Vex spring bed-bottom, formed of a top and a bottom series of slats, rmly united at the head and foot to cross-pieces, and supported, at or near the center, by coiled-wire springs placed between the two series of slats, all as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a longitudinal section, and Fig. 2 a pian View, of my bed-bottom.
A A represent the top series of slats, and B B the bottom series. These slats are all firmly secured at the head and foot, or, in other words, at their ends, to cross-pieces C C by means of bolts, screws, or other suitable means, the said cross-pieces separating the two series of slats, as shown in Fig. 1. Between each slat and cross-piece is placed a washer, c, of rubber or other suitable material, to prevent all noise and unnecessary friction. The slats of the two series are of the same number, and placed directly opposite each other. Between each top slat A and its corresponding bottom slat B, at or near the center, are placed coiled-wire springs D D, which thus support the slats, and the whole forms a double-convex spring bedbottom. The springs D D are fastened in any suitable manner, and by any convenient means, to the slats, both on top and bottom. Across the lower or bottom slats B B is fastened a bar, b, which forms a stiener, by which said slats are securely kept in position and strengthene( The bedbottom thus constructed is cheap, yet strong and durable, and has a very easy motion. A
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In combination with the slats A and B and my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ALBERT W. EIGHT.
