Description
UNITED STATES'v PATENT QFFIGE.
HENRY O. STRONG, OF LANSING, IOWA.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 122,336, dated January 2, 1872.
To all Iwhom it 'may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY C. STRONG, of Lansing, in the county of Allamakee and State of Iowa, have invented a new and Improved Shawl or Dress-Pin 5 and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this speciiication.
My invention consists in an improved and cheaper construction of that class of dress-pins which have two pins, as hereinafter fully described and subsequently pointed out in the claim. The object of the arrangement is to increase theV capacity of such pins for connect ing more than two pieces or plies of goods together.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved pin. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation of the plate and side elevation ofthe pins; also, a sectional elevation of some pieces of cloth connected by the pins; and Fig. 3 is a transverse section of the pla-te.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.A
A is the plate; B, the pins; and C, the hooks for engaging the points of the pins. The pins or prongs are formed of one piece of wire,
coiled at the center once or twice around and through a hole, D, in the plate, and shaped so as to 'extend along said plate to the opposite end, Where the hooks C are attached.
This improved p in is more particularly intended to fasten bows upon a lad ys collar, and, at the same time, fasten the coll-arto the dress, which is very readily accomplished by using one of the pins or prongs for fastening the collar to the dress, and the other for fastening the bow to the collar. It is also useful in like manner for fastening many other articles of dress.
The hooks for controlling the points may either be made separately and attached to the plate, or they may be formed of parts of the plate bent at right angles to the main portion t and suitably shaped for 'the purpose.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of plate A D, hooks C C, and pins B B, when these latter are constructed from one piece of metal, as and for the purpose specified.
HENRY C. STRONG.
