Description
T. F. PALM.
Eaves-Trough Hangers.
PateniedSeptemberBO,1873.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS F. PALM, OF TOLEDO, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO ISAAC H. HAMPTON AND THOMAS F. PALM, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT lN EAVES-TROUGH HANGERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent bio-143,375, dated September 30, 1873; application filed September 8, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS F. PALM, of Toledo, in the coiuity of Lucas and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Eaves-Trough Hanger; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which the figure is a perspective view of an eaves-trough, showing the connection therewith of my improved fastener.
The invention relates to means for suspending eaves-troughs, a patent having been obtained by me on one device for this purpose, dated April 20, 1869, to which the great objection is its unavoidable expense. In studying and experimenti'n g upon the subject, I have discovered a different means for that purpose,
and one which not only possesses strength and reliability in a greater degree than the former, but which may be made and applied at a much less expense. My new fastener is formed of one continuous wire, without a single screw, rlvet, or bolt, as hereinafter described and claimed.
A represents the wire, on which is formed an eye, a, which is held just above the rear edge of the trough. The wire is then bent from this point around the curved outer surface of the trough B, passed through a hole, I), and across to and over the middle of the trough. It is then bent up obliquely out and back to form the loop 0, then carried around the piece of wire 0, and across to the opposite side of the trough, and through the eye a. The end is finally carried back to the middle of the trough, and wrapped around the bend a. The loops 0 are held to the roof by nails, staples, or any suitable appliance.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is a The one continuous wire A, passing under and over the trough, provided with the loop 0, and having the ends made fast, substantially as and for the purpose described.
THOMAS F. PALM.
