To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HERMAN RUDNIOK, a citizen of theUnited States, and a resident of New York, borough of Bronx, county of Bronx, and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Containers, of whichthe following is a full, clear, and exact specification,

This invention relates more particularly to a class of boxes having open tops.

My invention has for its object primarily to provide a form of container designed to be utilizedfor packing merchandise therein, especially dry cell-batteries, so as to beattraotive in appearance when offered for sale aswell as tending to preventthe contents from being damaged when transported, and which is of a form wherebythe requirement for making the body of the container and its bottom separately may be dispensed with,

- thus serving to prevent the bottom from becoming displaced, from the body as is incident to other'makes of suchtypes of con tainers. 5

The invention consists essentially of a supporting body formed from a single blank ofcardboard, or other like flexible material which is cut to provide a substantially rec,-

tangular member, or plate, a substantially elliptic bottom member orfplate integral with the rectangular member and'extending from the central part of the lower' edge thereof, and also a substantially rectangular tongue, or extension integral with the'elliptic bottom member and extending therefrom in, an opposite direction to the rectangular member, the supporting body being provided by forming the rectangular member into an approximately elliptic tubular wall and then disposing the bottom member and the rectangular extension upwardly so that the bottom member will close the adjacent end of the tubular wall and the extension will be guided interiorly of the tubular wall for the ends of the rectangular member to be pasted or otherwise connected thereto.

to said drawings, the container comprises a supporting body 17 made' from a single blank cut to provide a substantially rectangular wall member 18 adapted to be curved vertically so as to form a partial tubular wall, and projecting from the central part of the lower edge of this rectangular member is an integral substantially elliptical bottom member 19'which'is disposed lengthwise of the rectangular member longitudinally thereof,f and this bottom member is of a size adapted to close the adjacent open end of the tubular wall when formed. Extending from the second lengthwise edge of the bottom member 19 in an opposite direction toi the rectangular member 18 is an extension or wall member 20 which is of a length similar to the height of the rectangular member, andthis extension is of a width adapted to permit the ends of the rectangular member to overlap thereon for closing the space between the ends of the rectangular member when curved to provide the tubular wall of the supporting body. When these parts are assembled to form the supporting body 17 ,the rectangularrmember 18 is formed into a partially substantially elliptic wall, and the elliptic edges of the extension, and the supporting body will then be formed by sealing together the rectangular member and this extension. In the foregoing description, 1 have embodied the preferredform of my invention, but I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself thereto, as I am aware that modifications may be made therein without departing from the principle, or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention, therefore I reserve to myself the right to makersuch changes as fairly fall within the scope of the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Let ters Patent V 1. A blank for containers comprising an approximately elliptical bottom member having substantially parallel edges, a substantially rectangular wall, member integral with one edge of said bottom member and of sufficient length to extend completely around the ends thereof when disposed transversely thereto, a second wall member integral with the other parallel edge of said bottom member and adapted when disposed transversely thereto to lie in overlapping relation to said first mentioned wall memher, the opposed surfaces of the said wall members overlappingwhereby a joint may be formed therebetween, and integral fingers provided on the first mentioned wall memberand adapted to be folded under the ends of the bottom member to support the same when the container is in assembled position,

substantially as described.

2. A blank for containers comprising an approximately elliptical bottom member having substantiallyparallel edges, a substantially rectangular wall member integral with one edge of said bottom member and of suflioient length to extend completely around the ends thereof when disposed transversely thereto but leaving an uninolosed space between the two adjacent edges of the wall member, and a second wall member integral with the other parallel edge of the bottom member and adapted when disposed transversely thereto'to close the open space between the adjacent edges of the first mentioned wallmember, thereby forming a container, substantially as described.

'3. A blank for containers comprising an approximately elliptical bottom member having substantially parallel edges, a substantially rectangular wall member integral with one edge of said bottom member and of sufiicient length to extend completely around the ends thereof when disposed transversely vthereto but leaving an unin closed spacebetween the two adjacent vertioal edges of the wall member, a second wall member integral with the other parallel edge of the bottom member and adapted when disposed transversely thereto to close the open space between the adjacent edges of the first mentioned wall member, the opposed edges of the first and second wall members overlapping, whereby a joint may be formed therebetween, and integral fingers provided on the first mentioned wall member and adapted to be folded under the ends ofthe bottom member to support the same when the container is in assembled position, substantially as described.
