ENVELOP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented. oca jis, 1908.
4 Application filed September 30, 1907. Serial No. 395,070.
To-all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEoseE R. Looicwoon,
I a citizen of the United States, residing at St.
Louis, inthc State of Missouri, have invented a cert ainnew and useful Envelop, of which the followirfi ."is such a full, clear, and exact description as will enable any one skilled in the art to which it appertains to make anduse the same, reference being had to the aeco1npanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to envelo-ps, and more particularl to envelope suitable for mailing small artic es of merchandise;
My envelop is es ecially adapted for mailing'thin, flat artic es such as photo raphic prints, film negatives and the like. fi; may, however, be used for various kinds of small articles of merchandise.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate one form of envelop made 1 n accordance with my invention, together with a slight modification thereof, Figure 1 is an inside view of the envelop, the twoparts thereof being unfolded. Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1 but showing a slight modification.
Fig. 3 is an outside view of the envelop shown in Fig. 2, the parts being folded together.
Fig. 4 is a cross-sectional view.
Like marks of reference refer to similar parts in the several views of the drawings.
10 are the two main parts of the envelop which are preferably rectangular or substantially rectangular in form. These parts 10 are 1ntegrally connected and are adapted to 'be folded together along the line 11, which may be creasedto facilitate the operation of folding.
12 are the side flaps which are formed in tegral with the main parts 10 so that when folded along the lines 13 integral closures will be formed for the outer sides of the pockets. The side flaps 12 are of slightly less width than the main dparts 11) so that. the inner edges 14 of sai flaps lie atsome distance from the fold, 11, the object of this being to facilitate the insertion and withdrawal of the articles in the-pockets. The inner edges 14 are also preferably each provided with a reeessed portion 15 to further facilitate the in sertion and withdrawal of the articles.
r, 16 are end flaps which are formed integral iwith the main parts v10 and which are folded along the lines 17 so as to overla the ends of the side flaps 12. The end aps 16 are gummed, or otherwise permanently secured to the side flaps 12, thus completing'theformation of the pockets for holding the articles of merchandise. The end flaps 16 are preferably provided withbevels 18 at their outer ends and bevels 19 at their inner ends. v
In order to secure the two parts of the envelop in their folded position, I provide the pockets with eyelets 20 adapted to register with each other. In the form showndn Fig. 1, two of these eyelets are rovided, one in each pocket arranged centra ly and adjacent to the outer'side, while in Figs. 2, 3 and 4 I have shown the envelop provided with four of these eyelets arranged at the ends of the pockets. In order to secure the parts tothrough the eyelets 20, or the parts may be secured together by means .of a cord or other flexible fastening means passing through the eyelets. I
it will be evident that, while my envelop is made with the-smallest possible amount of material, it is neat in appearance and durable and can be readily inspected by reasonof the the two parts of the envelop in folded' position.
Having -fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
nected maiii parts, side flaps opposite the connecting portion of said main parts and folded onsaid main parts to form the bodies of pockets with integrally closed sides, said flaps being of less width than said main parts, end flaps overlapping and permanently secured to sald side flaps to close the ends of the pockets, said pockets being adapted to ing means for securing them in. folded position.
2. An envelop having two integrally connected main parts, side flaps opposite the connecting v ortion of said main parts and folded on sa d main parts to form the bodies of pockets with integrally closed sides, said side being of less width than said main parts, end flaps overlapping and permanently secured to said side flaps to close the ends of .gether paper fasteners 21 may be passedv 1. An envelop having two integrally 0011- be folded togethenand provided with fasten-.
simplicity of the fastening means for securing the pockets, said end flaps being beveled at my hand and eflixed my seal in the presence their inner ends arfid extending to the eonof the two subscribing witnesses. meeting portion 0 said main parts, said pockets being adapted to be folded together GEORGE It OQKWOOD. [1,. 1a.] 5 and provided with fastening means for seeur- Witnesses:
ing them in folded position. ELIZABETH BAILEY, In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set g JAMES H. BRYSON.
