UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MATTHEW VIERENGEL, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR T0 THE U. S. PAPER GOODS CO., OF CINCINNATI, OHIO, A CORPORATION OF OHIO.
PAPER BAG.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed March 20, 1909. Serial No. 484,674.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MATTHEW VIERENGEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at the borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paper Bags, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in paper bags having an inner lining of moisture proof paper.
The object of my invention is to provide a paper bag of duplex form in which the outer bag is formed of a single blank folded upon itself to form two sides and a bottom, with flaps projecting from one of the sides folded inward, and an inner bag with one side of smaller marginal dimension than the corresponding side of the outer' bag, similarly folded, with the marginal edges on one side of both bags secured to the flaps of the outer bag.
The features of my invention will be more fully set forth in the description of the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specilcation, in which Figure l, is a plan View of the outer bag blank. Fig. 2, is a plan view of the inner bag blank. Fig. 3, is a View of the bag in a partly formed position illustrating one side of each inner and outer bag partly secured to a relative side ap of the outer bag, with the opposite edges of the bags in open position. Fig. 4, is a section through a completed bag.
The bag is formed of an outer member or bag consisting of a blank with the sides l, 2, of equal dimension, folded along the medial transverse line 3. The side 1 is provided with the laterally extended aps 4, each adapted t0 be folded inward along the line 5. The inner blank has the'sides 6, 7, adapted to be folded upon themselvesalong the transverse line 8. The side 6 is of the same dimension asthe side` l, of the outer member, while the side 7, is of smaller dimension than the side 2, of the outer blank. Thus when the parts are placed and folded together, the outer side 2, will overlap the side 7, with the edges of both sides 2 and 7 overlapping the flaps 4, and pasted together. The side 6, along its marginal surface, adj acent to the surface of the side l, is preferably asted so as to retain the two members together. Likewise the free edges of the outer and inner sides 2 and 7, are preferably pasted together along their marginal edge.
With this construction of duplex bag it will be seen that all the edges of the outer and inner bags are relatively secured together, thereby forming a very strong bag and lessening lthe liability of the parts becoming detached.
Having described my invention, I claim 1. A paper bag formed from an outer blank and an inner lining blank, the outer blank comprising two sides of equal dimensions with a medial line of fold, securing flaps extending from one of said bag sides, an inner blank comprising two sides with a medial line of fold, with one of the sides of equal dimension as the side of the adjacent outer bag, with the opposite side of the inner bag smaller in width than the adjacent side of the outer bag, whereby one overlaps the other and both overlap the securing flaps to which they are secured, and the remainder of edges` of both bags relatively secured together along a marginal line thereof, substantially as described.
2. A paper bag of duplex form, an outer blank folded upon a medial line, an inner blank folded upon a medial line, each blank forming two sides and a bottom, flaps eX- tending from one of the outer bag sides, the
inner bag formed with one side of smallerv marginal dimension than the corresponding side of the outer bag and with the marginal edges of said differential sized sides of both bags secured to the flaps .of the outer bag, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand.
` MATTHEW VIERENGEL.
