To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ALVIN G. PORTER, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Auburn, in the county of King and State of Washington, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to paper receptacles such as are usually employed for holding liquids and has for one of its objects the provision of an improved method for sealing the ends of a paper receptacle in which milk is'to be stored, without the aid of glue or analogous adhesivesubstanc'es, whereby the danger of the milk becoming contaminated will be reduced to a minimum.
Another object is the provision ofan improved form of clip or fastener to be positioned on the exterior; of the closed end and when so positioned to' firmly clamp the gathered or folded portions of the end against displacement.
With these and other objects in View, which will more fully hereinafter appear, the present invention consists in certain novel details of construction and arrangement of parts, hereinafter fully described,
' illustrated in the accompanying drawings and Vmore particularly pointed'out in the appended claim; it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion, size, and minor details ofthe device may be made, within the scope. of the appended claim, without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of the specification;-Figure l is a side elevation of a milk bottle constructed in accordance with my invention and showing the ends thereof in sealed position. Fig. 2 .is a plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one end thereof showing the parts partly folded prior to applying the clip. Fig. k is a perspective View of anursing bottle constructed in accordance with my invention.

While I have shown devices commonly known as milk bottles sealed in accordance with my improved method, it must be understood that I am not to be limited to the specific employment of a milk bottle, since it will be understood from what will appear later how the method can be equally as wellused with drinking goblets made of paper or in fact analogous articles which are used only once, without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
The form of bottle employed is designated by the numeral 5, and as shown in the drawings is rectangular in cross section and tapered in the direction of its length, the wide end 6 constituting the mouth of the bottle.
l/Vhen closing this bottle the narrow end or bottom 7 is, at the four corners thereof, squeezed or bent untilapproximately onehalf of the marginal edge portions of the adjacent sides bear one upon the other and present four radial ribs designated by the numeral 8, the whole conforming substantially to the shape of a star.
The folded portions or ribs 8 are secured by means of a clip or member 9. This member which is preferably made of resilient wire is formed with four loops 12 which are forced around the ribs so that the edge portions of said ribs will be held against spreading and the whole will constitute a liquid tight-joint. With this construction it will be manifest that the liquid within the bottle or receptacle will not contact with the closure or clamp, whereby contamination of the contents will be prevented.
In the modified form shown in Fig. 4 a nursing bottle 18 is shown as having its bottom formed and secured by a clip in the manner described, while a tube 19 of greater length than the bottle is inserted into the latter with one end projecting through the open or upper end of the bottle. The end through which the tube extends is then folded in the manner described after which the edges are secured by the clip whose central portion is circular to permit the passing therethrough of the tube 19 which passes through the center of the top.
From the foregoing, it is evident that I have provided a device which is comparatively simple in structure, and inexpensive in manufacture, embodying few parts and these so arranged at the danger of derangement will be reduced to a minimum.
I claim A seal for paper receptacles comprising an endless wall formed of the material at one end of the receptacle and angularly related to the main surface of said end and of approximately double star shape, and a Wire loop member engaging the outer surface of the Wall along the entire contour thereof and confining the immediatelyadjacent and 5 corresponding sections of the Wall into nonleaking contact.
