Description
D. UNRUH.
BQTTLE.
APPUCATION HLED DEC-22.19%.
Patented Feb. 25, 1919.
ZZ'IIII INVENTOR BY I q) ATTORNEY DANIEL UNRUH, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
BOTTLE.
Application filed December 22, 1916. Serial No. 138,437.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DANIEL UNRUH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to bottles, and more particularly to a bottle for containing poison provided with means for preventing easy opening of the same.
One of the main objects of the invention is to provide a bottle of the character stated of m'mple construction and operation having a removable cap which carries a cork or closure member and forces this member tightly into the bottle neck when secured in opcrative position. A further object is to provide a bottle with a; cap adapted to cooperate therewith so as to effectually prevent the contents of the bottle from flowing or dripping down the outside of the bottle neck. Further objects will appear from the detailed description.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a side view of a bottle constru'cted in accordance with my invention,
Fig. 2 is a central vertical section through the same,
Fig. 3 is a section on line 33 of Fig. 1,
Fig. 4: is an underneath view of the cap, and
Fig. 5 is a top plan view of the cap.
The bottle 1 is provided with a neck 2 having an integral annular shoulder at its upper end. This shoulder is divided into two outwardly extending annular shoulders 3 by two vertical diametrically opposite slots 4 extending through the same at the sides of the neck 2. Each of the shoulders 3 has its lower edge portion of helical curvature to form, in effect, a screw thread 3*. Each of these thread members is beveled inwardly and downwardly, as shown in Figs. -1 and 2 of the drawings.
A cylindrical cap 5 fits on top of the neck 2 and extends outward radially of the same. This cap is provided with diametrically opposite downwardly extending arms 6 each of which is turned inward at its lower end, as at 6 to fit snugly under the threads Z) of the shoulders 3. This cap is provided with a central inverted frusto-conical recess which receives the upper end portion of a cork stopper 7 which is adapted to fit snugly in Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 25, 1919.
the bottle neck 2 so as to effect a liquid tight closure therewith. The cap 5 is placed on top of the neck 2, the stopper 7 being inserted into the neck, and the arms 6 into the vertical grooves 4:. By turning the cap 5 toward the right, as considered in Fig. 1 of the drawings, the lower inclined portions 6 of the arms 6 will engage the beveled lower edges 3 of the shoulders 3 so as to draw the cap 5 firmly downward on to'the neck. This forces the stopper 5 tightly into the bottle neck and also brings the under face of the cap into close engagement with the upper edge of the neck 2 so as to effect a liquid tight closure therewith. For this purpose a portion of the under face of the cap concentric with the central recess which holds the stopper 7 may be ground, the up per edge of the neck 2 being also ground. Also, the beveled portion or thread 3 of the shoulder-3, and the inner faces of the lower portions 6 of the arms 6, may be ground so as to insure close frictional engagement between these members. By this means the cap 5 and stopper 7 are both secured firmly in position, and a double closure is formed at the neck of the bottle which eifectually eliminates all possibility of spilling of the contents of the bottle or of the poison flowing downward about the outer surface of the bottle neck. The cork or stopper 7 may be readily removed from the cap 5 so as to permit renewal thereof as occasion requires, thus permitting the cap to be used a number of times, the cap and cork cooperating to provide a composite closure member which operates in the manner above stated to form a double fluid pipe closure about the upper end of the neck of the container.
A disk 8 is secured on the top of cap 5. This disk is provided with a suitable inscription or design such as that shown in Fig. 5 of the drawings. A person, in endeavoring to open the bottle would grasp the cap 5 so that their attention would be called to the fact, in their endeavors to open the bottle in the ordinary manner, that the bottle was of unusual construction.
What I claim is: y
In combination with a necked receptacle having an outer enlargement at its upper end in which is formed longitudinal slots, the lower edge of the enlargement having the portions between the longitudinal slots inclined and beveled to form shoulders, a cap having arms to embrace the enlargement of In testimony whereof I affix my signature the neck, and llLVlng the ends of the arms in presence of two Witnesses.
