Moses Linker- MOSES LINKER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
BOTTLE-STOPPER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 10, 1907.
Application filed October l, 1906. Serial No. 336,983.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, Moses LINKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle-Stoppers; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention is an improved bottle stopper, and it consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
The object of my invention is to effect improvements in the construction of the bottle and to combine therewith a cap mounted thereon for revolution, and which when turned in one position acts as a stopper to effectively close the bottle, and when turned to another position opens the bottle to permit the contents thereof to be poured out, without the necessity of remox ing said cap from the bottle.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a sectional view of a portion of the bottle provided with a stopper embodying my improvements, showing the stopper in closed position; Fig. 2 is a similar view, showing the stopper in open position; and Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the same. i Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the bottle neck showing the groove therein.
The bottle 1 has its discharge opening 2 disposed ec centric-ally at one side, the opposite side of the bottle, at the neck, being thickened, as at 3 so that the mouth of the bottle presents a circular, broadened, flattened surface. Around the neck of the bottle is a rim or bead 4, formed integrally therewith and curved in cross sec tion. On the mouth of the bottle is placed a circular washer 5, which comprises a lower layer 6 of celluloid, or other suitable material, which bears directly on the mouth of the bottle, and an upper or outer layer 7, of rubber. The said washer is provided in one side with an opening 8, which when the washer is turned in one position, registers with the opening 2 ofthe bottle to uncover the same. I further provide a cap 9, which is made of metal or other suitable material, and is formed with a flange 10, which extends annularly around the mouth of the bottle and conforms to the shape of and engages the head 4 thereof, so that the cap is locked on the bottle and is yet enabled to be turned thereon. The cap is provided with an opening 11, which, when the cap is in the position shown in Fig. 1, is disposed over the thickened portion 3 of the mouth of the bottle, so that the cap and the washer will effectually close the bottle. The flange 10 of the cap is provided at one side with an indent forming a projection or stop 12, which operates in a groove 13 in the bead of the bottle neck, and coacts therewith to limit the revoluble movement of the cap. When the cap is turned to the position indicated in Fig. 2, the washer turns with it and the openings in the cap and washer register with the opening in the bottle, so that the bottle is opened and the contents may be readily poured therefrom. The celluloid under layer of the washer enables the latter to readily turn on the mouth of the bottle, and the rubber upper or outer layer of the washer by frictional contact with the cap, causes the washer to be locked to the cap and turned therewith, as will be understood.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention, as defined by the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is,
1. A bottle having its discharge opening disposed eccentrically near one side of the neck, having a bead around the neck and curved in cross section, said bottle preventing a circular broadened flattened surface at its mouth, through which the discharge opening eccentrically extends, in combination with a cap having a flange extending around and engaging the head, said cap having an opening to register with the discharge opening and being revoluble on the mouth of the bottle, and a washer between the cap and the mouth of the bottle and having an opening registering with that of the cap, said Washer being revoluble with the cap on the broadened flattened mouth of the bottle.
2. A bottle having its discharge opening disposed eccentrically near one side of the neck, having a bead around the neck and curved in cross section, said bottle presenting a circular broadened flattened surface at its mouth, through which the discharge opening eccentrically extends, in combination with a cap having a flange extending around and engaging the head, said cap having an opening to register with the discharge opening and being revolubie on the mouth of the bottle, and a washer between the cap and the mouth of the bottle and having an opening registering with that of the cap, said Washer having a friction surface presented to the cap and an antit'ricti0n surface presented to the broadened flattened mouth of the bottle.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
MOSES LINKER.
