Beit known that I, MOSES ALIBER', a citizen of the' United .States y of.;America, and resident of Des Moines, Polkcountylowa,
have invented. a new and useful Bottle-Stopper, of which the following is aspeeiiication.
The object of this invention is to` improvel the construetionof bottle Stoppers and to ento be 4removed readily' .from the neck of a ottle without the use of an instrument and Without damaging l. my improved eling cap is made.

A further object of this invention is to provide an improved lconstruction for sealingcalps adapted to be removed and replaced re lative to the neck of a bottle without'the use of an instrument.
My invention consists in the construction, arrangement and combination of elements hereinafter set forth, pointed outl in my claim and illustrated by the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a plan of a blank from which Fig. 2 is a plan of the co pletesealing cap. Fig. 3 is .a vertical section illustratingthe sealing cap in position on the neck of a bottle. Fig. 4 is a side elevation illustrating the sealing cap in ,position on the neck of a bottle. Fig. 5 is a cross-section on the indicated line 5-5 of Fig. 4.
Inthe construction ofthe device as shown the numeral 10 designates a sealing cap con- -structed of sheet metal and formed with a locking flange 11 adapted to engage an annu-` lar shoulder 12 -of the neck l of a bottle.,

or all of such contents, maybe removed and, thereafter, the cap may be replaced on the bottle by a movement of the cap and tongue the reverse.y of the movement described to open the bottle.
Heretofore sealing caps have been adapted .for removal by an instrument extraneous to the cap; and also by, being torn or broken and rendered unt for further use; but it will lbe observed that my improved cap may be removed and replaced as desired without any damage to the cap. The use of the ring 19 f l is deslrable when the cap is employed asa stopper for a bottle containing effervescing liquid, such as beer, since in such use it is necessary to apply the cap more firmly to the neck of-thebottle and more force is required to remove'it.`l
In orderto manufacture a stopper of this class, it'l is essential that the cap-and the lever be formed integral from a .smgle piece of sheet metal. Experience has proven that the most satisfactory results in stop ers of this kind are attained by the use o a cap having-its margins extended inwardly at its loWer edge, to f it around underneath the flange 12 of a bottle, and that this must be done all around the entire circumference of the cap. In order therefore to provide a llever or handle at one side of the cap therel must be a sharp bend made at the point where the lower edge of' the cap merges intol the'upper end of the lever, as clearly shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings. Furthermore, in order that the lever may have sufiicient rigidity to accomplish thefunction for which it is intended, and at the same time be made out of the same material as the cap, the material must be reinforced and strengthened at the point where the lower edge of the cap merges into the lever. In forming caps of this.v kind without levers, it has been customary to. provide reinforcing corru'gations all around the flange of the cap. I have provided for reinforcing the lever at the point named, by providing corrugations in the metal itself extending from the iiange of the cap into the lever, past the point where the cap and the lever come together, and by this structure, Iprovide a cap inV which the margins all around the periphery are fitted under the flange of the bottle, and the lever is offset from the margin of the cap, and at the same time the-lever and cap at the juncture thereof are made strong and rigid, notwithstanding the fact that the same material of which the cap is formed is used for the lever. The lever is further strengthened and reinforced at the upper end by being curved in the same manner as the cap.
I claim as my invention- An improved bottle stopper,l formed of a single piece of sheet metal and comprising a top to extend over the mouth of a bottle,
and sides extended downwardly and then inwardly around the entire circumference of the stopper to engage a rib around'the mouth of a bottle', the lower edge of said sides being downwardly in a direction substantially at right-angles to the to said lever having its upper-'end portion, t at is adjacent to the top, segmental in cross section to thereby strengthen and reinforce it at the point where it unites with the outwardly projecting ii ange at the lower end of the cap, and said cap and flange both being provided with reinforcing corrugations, said corrugations on the lever being extended over the point where the lever 'unites with the outwardly projecting o lower edge of the sides.
