UNITED STATES PATENT ()FFICE.
FRANK KAYE AND ROBE-RT W. ROGERS, 0F MERIDIAN, MISSISSIPPI.
BOX.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, FRANK KAYE and ROBERT W. ROGERS, citizens of the United States, residing at Meridian, in the county of Lauderdale and State of Mississippi, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to an improvement in boxes or packages for packing ice cream, and more especially brick cream.
The object is to provide a box or receptacle within an outer receptacle or box.
A further object is in the provision of means whereby ice can be packed around the inner receptacle for keeping the contents of the inner receptacle cold.
The invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claims.
The figure is a perspective view of the invention showing the top flaps and end flaps of the outer receptacle open.
A, represents the outer receptacle, which consists of the bottom 1, and sides 2. An end member 3 is folded up from the bottom extending to the upper edge of the sides 2, and in it is cut an opening 4. The end flaps 5, connected to the sides 2, are connected to the end member 3 by means of an adhesive at the outer edges of the end member 3. A flange 6 is turned upwardly from the other or rear end of the receptacle, and connected thereto is an end flap 7 which is connected to one of the side members 2, and connected to the end flap 7 is an end flap 8 which is connected to the other side, forming a solid end. A cover or top is formed by flaps 9, in one of which is cut a slot 10, in which an end of the other flap is inserted for fastening the flaps together and closing the top of the box.
The inner receptacle B is made preferably rectangular and at one end flanges 11 are formed which project inwardly and which are glued to the end flap 7. At the other end of the inner receptacle flanges 12 are formed which are connected to the outer surface of the end member 3, the box or receptacle B projecting through the opening 4 of the end member 3, so that the flanges 12 can be bent outwardly and against the Specification of Letters Patent.

surface of the end member 3. In one of the end flaps 5 is cut a slot 14, in which the end of the other flap is inserted for locking the two flaps together in closing the inner receptacle. A bail or handle 13' is connected to the flaps 7, 8, and end member 3, for carrying the box or package.
The paper or material from which the box is constructed will preferably be coated with a waterproof coating, so that in packing the box with ice there will be no danger of the brine or moisture coming into contact with the contents of the inner receptacle. The ice is packed in the space formed between the inner and outer receptacles, the inner receptacle being much smaller in size than the outer receptacle, so that there is a space entirely around the inner receptacle for the packing of the ice to keep the contents of the inner receptacle cool.
Having fully described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination with an outer and an inner receptacle, said outer receptacle made from a single piece of material comprising sides and bottom, an end flap connected to the bottom having an opening formed therein adapted to be bent to an upright position between the sides, end flaps connected to the sides, the end flaps at one end of the receptacle being connected together for closing one end thereof, said inner receptacle extending through the opening in the end member, flanges on the inner receptacle connected to the end flap in which is the opening and to the end flaps of the closed end of the outer receptacle, top flaps connected to the upper edges of the sides for closing the top of the outer receptacle, the other end flaps adapted to be connected together for closing the opening in the end flap and the inner receptacle.
2. The combination of an outer and inner receptacle, said outer receptacle comprising sides and end flaps, the end flaps of one end of the receptacle being connected together for closing one end thereof, said inner receptacle connected to the closed end of the outer receptacle, an end flap connected to one of the sides having an opening therein, flanges on the inner receptacle connected to the ends of the outer receptacle for supporting the inner receptacle Within the outer In testimony whereof We affiX our signai'eceptacle, whereby a space is formed enthree, in the presence of two Witnesses. tirely around the inner receptacle, the other FRANK KAYE.
end flaps connected to the flap having the ROBERT W. ROGERS. opening for supporting the said flap in an Vitnesses:
upright position and for closing the opening W. P. PIsToLE,
therein and the inner receptacle. E. DIAL.
