Specification of Letters Eatent.
Patented Nov. as. lldth.
Application filed m a, 19m. Serial in. select.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, SoLoMoN Gnoss and J osnrnr Gnoss, citizens of the United States of America, residing at Galesburg, in the county of Knox and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination-Pockets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to pockets and, more especially, to that class of pocket intended for a watch and pencils; or the like, and adapted to be placed on overalls, overall bibs or jumpers.
The objects of the invention are :-To provide a pocket of simple construction, and neat appearance; to provide a pocket so constructed as to reduce the hemming and stitching of parts to a minimum; to provide a pocket so formed that a watch, or other article placed in the watch pocket will not readily fall out, no matter what position the wearer may assume.
\Vith these and such other objects in View as may hereinafter more fully appear, our invention consists in the novel arrangement and construction of parts set forth in the following description,- more particularly pointed out in the claim, and which are shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of an overall bib showing the pocket'in place thereon.
' Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a perspective View of a modification of the pocket in place on a jumper, or overalls. Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken on the line l4 of Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a sectional view taken on the line 5-5 of Fig. 3.
Referring to said drawings by numerals:A bib 1 preferably formed of two pieces of material, is stitched or joined to' one side of the center, as shown most clearly at 2, a portion of said joining or stitching being left open, as at 3. To the back of said bib 1 is secured or stitched a piece of material 4, to form the pocket. Slits 5 and 6 are formed in the material of the bib, the edges of said slits being buttonholed as shown. The material of the bib and piece 4: is stitched together, as shown at 7 and 8, to form pencil pockets of which the slits 5 and 6 form the mouths or openin s.
In the modification shown in Fig. 3 the piece 4: is placed on the outside of the garment 1' and stitched thereto. A. vertical slit 9 is formed in said piece 4. A rule pocket 10, formed of .a piece of material doubled over upon itself is stitched to the piece 4: so as tocover the slit 9, a gap being left in said stitching, as shown at 3, adjacent the said slit to form an opening for the pocket. Ifhe slits 5 and 6, and stitching 7 and 8 which form the pencil pockets being the same as those heretofore described.
As will be readily understood, a watch or other object deposited in the watch pocket will be positively protected from falling out, the pencil pockets acting as guides therefor and keeping the object so positioned that it will not get in position to enter the opening to the pocket.
Having described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A garment having a portion formed of two pieces united by a seam and provided with a horizontal slit at each side of the seam, and -a pocket piece sewed to both pieces and underlying the seam and slits, the stitches securing the sides of the pocket piece to the garment being adjacent the outer end of each slit, and'stitching beginning at the inner end of each slit and extending downwardly therefrom to a point below the horizontal center of the pocket, where it joins the stitching, securing a side of the pocket piece to the garment, to form small elongated pockets, the said seam being discontinued for a short distance to form an opening for the main pocket.
In testimony whereof we hereunto afiix our signatures in presence of two. witnesses.
