State of Maine, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sting-Proof Bee veils, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

- This invention relates to improvements in apparel adapted for the useof an. apiarist, and more specifically has for its object the provision of an improved protecting means for the face and neck, and preferably also the upper part of the body and arms, of a wearer, from exposure to the sting of bees.

The invention embraces a device capable of ready attachment in place, and possessing structural characteristics enabling free use of the arms of the user, and unobstructed view of the work being done by the latter, while effectually barring access of the bees to the interior of the device either at, the upper or. lower portions thereof.

More specifically, the invention comprehends a protector embodying a relatively rigid open-work tubular head portion adapted to surround the head and neck of the wearer, the same being of a size to be substantially spaced from the face to prevent bees from stinging therethrough, and permitting perfect freedom of movement of the head and neck therewithin. There is a flexible upper extension secured to the upper end of the tubular portion to which I have just alluded, provided with an opening through which the crown of a hat may project and with means for firmly securing the margin of the flexible portion bordering said opening circumferentially of said crown to secure a close fitting or sealed contact therebetween to the exclusion of the bees. There is also a depending shirt portion of relatively large or loose fitting dimensions with respect to the user secured around its upper edge to the lower edge of the openwork head portion, said shirt portion having a means at its lower edge to securely bind the same around the body and below the arm pits to exclude bees at this point. Sleeves are also provided having similarly acting securing means to close the ends thereof. Thus bees are effectually excluded from entering beneath the shirt both at the sleeves and around the body. This construction affords perfect freedom of movement of the Specification of Letters Patent.

shoulders and arms, permitting the openwork head part to turn with the head of the wearer by reason of the enlarged flexible nature of the upper portion of the shirt, while the fastening of the ends of the sleeves and the bottom of the shirt will constantly maintain the attachment in place. The preferred embodiment of the invention just outlined is illustratedin the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, and the details of construction and arrangement of parts will be more readily understood from an inspection of such drawings when viewed in connection with the specific'de scription hereinafter contained,

Referring more specifically to the drawings, wherein like reference letters designate corresponding parts in the several'views, A represents a head and neck protecting portion formed of relatively rigid material of open-work construction such as wire fabric,

To the upper edge "of the member A a flexible extension B is secured, the same being of a size and character to be passed around the brim of a hat and carried inwardly thereover to the crown, this extension having an opening for the introduction of the crown of the hat, and carrying at its edge bordering said opening a draw string or elastic member C enabling securing of the edge in close contact entirely therearound to said crown for the purpose previously observed.

Secured to the lower end of the member A and depending therefrom is an enlarged loose fitting upper portion D of a shirt-like member E, the lower end of the same being open to accommodate the body of the user and carrying a draw string or elastic F to close the margin surrounding said opening firmly against and around the body of the wearer. This shirt portion has loose fitting" bees from having access beneath the shirtlike member, as has already been made obvious. The shirt member is made of a stout flexible fabric such as a light weight canvas, of a character capable of preventing the sting of bees therethrough, and the enlargement at the upper portion thereof permits perfect freedom of movement of the shoulders and arms and turning of the head and hat while at the same time maintaining the device at all times in operative position upon the user.

While I have herein disclosed one embodiment of the invention it will be apparent to persons skilled in the art that said invention is capable of embodiment in other forms and devices as may be included within the scope of the hereto appended claims.

Having thus described the invention what I claim is: I

LA device of the character described comprising a tubular head portion of openwork material of a size to be spaced from the head of the wearer, a flexible extension at the upper end thereof adapted to be closed around a hat, and a flexible substantially sting-proof shirt portion depending from said head portion adapted to be closed at its lower end around the body.

A device of the character described comprising a tubular head portion of openwork material, a flexible extension at the upper end thereof adapted to be closed around a hat, and a flexible shirt portion depending from said head portion adapted to be closed at its lower end around the body, the shirt portion being provided with sleeves adapted to be closed at their ends around the arms. A device of the character described comprising a tubular relatively rigid openwork face protecting portion, the same being of large diameter to be spaced from the face and permit freedom of movement of the latter therein, a flexible extension at the upper end of said tubular portion having means for securing and closing the same around the hat, and a shirt portion of substantially sting-proof material depending from said face protecting portion having means for closing the lower end thereof about the body, the meeting portions of the shirt and face protecting portions being of a size to be spaced from the neck and shoulders and permit freedom of movement of the neck and shoulders within the device.

A device of the character described comprising a tubular relatively rigid openwork face protecting portion, the same being of large diameter to be spaced from the face and permitfreedom of movement of the latter therein, a flexible extension at the upper end of said'tubular portion having means for securing and closing the same around the hat, and a shirt portion depend ing from said face protecting portion having means for closing the lower end thereof about the body, the meeting portions of the shirt and face protecting portions being of a size'to be spaced from the neck and shoulders and permit freedom of movement of the neck and shoulders within the device, the shirt portion having sleeves provided with means for closing them about the arms.
