LOUIS E. F. WACI-ITER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
WATERPROOF WRIST-WATCH PROTECTOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
PatentedAug. 22, 1916.
Application filed June 1, 1915. Serial No. 31,399.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS E. F. WACHTER, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of New York, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in WVaterproof WristlVatch Protectors, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, illustrative of one particular embodiment of my invention.
My invention relates to watch protectors intended to secure, and at the same time incase a watch and support the same on the wrist.
Among the objects are more particularly the production of a simple, cheap and effective device of this character, while at the sametime inclosing the time piece so effectively as to prevent water or moisture reaching the interior of the watch, or in fact any part except the crystal or dial covering. I
In the particular-form of embodiment of my invention which I have more specifically described herein and shown in the drawingsFigure 1 is "a full view of the face side of the watch protector. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section showing modification in the expansible shell and strap arrangement.
The expansible shell A is formed of suitable size to snugly fit the watch, while an extension or head D accommodates the pendant and bow, and formed integral with the back of the shell A are the two extensions, namely, B, terminating in a buckle and C forming the complementary strap section. The strap B merges into the material at the back of the head D, that is, at D, thereby forming a support or base for the projection D. The central portion of the back of the shell A is concave, as shown at E, so that when'the watch is inserted it will cling or press against the back, and consequently cause the front of the shell F to be held tight against the crystal or dial cover of the watch, thereby forming a Waterproof joint at the beading F surrounding the face opening. The strap member B also merges into the material of. the back of theexpansible shell, and in this manner both B and C have a very firm connection to the case, particularly when the same is snugly surrounding a Watch.
As shown in Fig. 3, the straps B and C merge with the material of the expansible shell A and the head D, more nearly in the median plane of the shell instead of in alinement with'the back. This in some respects affords simplicity in manufacture, and might be preferable in the case of small watches. In this form the front and back of the shell may be out out of thin sheet rubber suitable in thickness for the shell, which requires flexibility, and the extensions, being vulcanized together producing a double thickness, afford the necessary strength for the strap. These extensions may also be tubular so that chains fre quently found on wrist watches, may be run through the tube and likewise protected.
I 'prefer to make the entire device of rubber and the face of the shell A must be of such material in order to expand and permit a watch to be inserted through the opening F. Rubber, however, affords facilities in manufacture and meets in general the desired characteristics required for the embodiment of my invention, although it may be possible to use expansible leather or fabric suitably adapted into most, if not all the requirements of my invention. Various modifications in detail and material may be made from that herein specifically shown and described, without departing from the spirit of my invention, but
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: p
1. A waterproof wrist watch holder comprising an integral center. portion to en compass'the back and sides of a watch leav- Watch integral with the center portion and one of said oppositely extending prolongations, for the purpose described.
2. A waterproof wrist Watch holder comprising an expansible shell with integral back and head portion, and a prolongation on the back of the shell and under said head portion extending in the form ofa-band.
3. A wrist watch holder comprising an expansible shell having a head portion, an integral back and a central open portion on the face, adapted to inclose a watch, and a reinforced extension of the back of the shell forming a base for the head portion and extending on the back of the shell in the oposite direction from the head portion formcomprising an expansible shell with-integral back having a head portion integral with the shell, an integral face portion having a central opening and a strap portion merging with the sides and head portion of said shell, supporting said head portion.
- 5. An article of the character described,
comprising an expansible shell with integral back having a head portion contiguous therewith, a central face opening, reentrant back and front portions, and a strap portion merging with the back of said shell extending in opposite directions, one part supporting the head portion and both parts forming the wrist strap.
6. An article of the character described, comprising an expansible shell having an integral inwardly curved back and a head portion, a central face opening, and integral projections on each side forming straps.
7. An article of the character described comprising an expansible integral shell conforming to the shape of a watch case, an integral reentrant back on said shell, a central opening on the face side of the shell leaving a rentrant annular rim portion on the .face
prising a thin rubber shell substantially conforming to a watch case, an openlngon one side with an expansible border, an integral projection from said shell to inclose a pendant, bow and crown of a watch, a rubber strap portion vulcanized to said head portion, and a complementary strap portion vulcanized to the opposite edge of said shell portion.
Signed at New York, this 29th day of May 1915.
