Be it known that I, BENNO VOM EIGEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corner-Fixtures for Bag-Frames; and I do hereby declare the fol lowing to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

- This invention has reference generally to improvements in bag or purse frames which are made with angular corners, the hinged or pivoted frame-sections being usually covered with leather, and in addition there being secured to the inner portions of the bag-frame sections suitable inlays, which are attached by means of rivets or pins, for fastening the body of the bag to the two frame-sections.

It has been found in practice that with the leather-covered bag-frame sections the leather at the corners of the frame while in use soon wears off, and for the principal purpose of this invention it is intended to use a metal cornerpiece,which acts as a protector or buffer and which, furthermore, greatly enhances the appearance of the frame-sections and adds to the ornamentation of the same. It has, further, been found in practice that with bag-frame sections having angular corners and with which inlays, also made with angular corners, are used such. inlays, owing to the necessary method of manufacture in making the inlays, are considerably weakened at their corners, and during the process of manufacture many of the inlays become broken and have to be thrown away, and, furthermore, during the process of fastenin the inlays upon the inner faces of the bagrame sections many of the inlays become broken at the corners. With the usual forms of inlays provided with the usual rounded corners there is no necessity of weakening the metal at the corners, and these inlays therefore do not break.

A further and very important object of my present invention'therefore is to provide a metal corner-piece of the general character hereinafter more fully set forth, which enables the use of the round-corner inlay with at the corners.

Other objects of this invention not at this time more particularly mentioned will be clearly understood from the following detailed description of the same.

With the various objects of my present invention in view the same consists in the novel corner clamp or fixture for bag-frame sections hereinafter set forth, and more fully described in the accompanying specification; and, furthermore, this invention consists in the general arrangements and combinations of the devices and parts, as well as in the details of the construction of the same, all of which will be more particularly described in the following specification, and then finally embodied in the clauses of the claims, which are appended to and which form an essential part of this specification.

The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figures 1 and 2 are top edge and end view, respectively, of a leather covered bag or purse frame made with angular or squared corners and provided with corner-fixtures embodying the principles of the present invention; and Fig. 3 is a plan view of the opened or separated bag-frame sections, one of the said sections being shown broken away, said view illustrating also the corner-fixtures in position upon the corners of the one framesection and a round-cornered inlay secured in its position within the frame-section and holding or retaining the corner-fixtureain place. scale, of the inner face of one of the corners of a frame-section with a cornerfixture in position, but the inlay being omitted from Fig. 4 is a detail view, on an enlarged I ICO said view; and Fig. 5 is a horizontal sectional representation of the said parts shown in Fig. 4. Referring now to the several figures of the drawings, the reference character 1 indicates the usual frame-sections, each comprising a body 2 and the downwardly-extending leg portions or members 3, provided with the usual perforated ears 4 and pins or rivets 5, by means of which the two frame-sections are hinged or pivoted, so as to open and close, as shown more particularly in Figs. 2 and 3 of the drawings. The body 2 of each framesection is made with the usual right-angled member or flange 6, and each leg portion 3 is made with the correspondingly-formed rightangled member or flange 7, each member or flange 7 forming, with the respective end portion of the right-angled member or flange 6 of the body 2, a square or sharp angular corner 8, all of which will be clearly understood from an inspection of Fig. 5 of the drawings. A covering 9, of leather or other suitable material, is secured about the several parts and these corners 8 of the frame-section in any well known and-usual manner. To protect these sharp leather-covered corners from wear, and, furthermore, to provide an ornamental finish at each corner of the frame-sections, and also to enable the use of the ordinary inlay 10, having the leg portions or members 11 and the rounded corner 12, upon the leather-covered members or

6 and 7, to which the inlay is secured by means of rivets or pins 13, corner-fixtures 14 of metal, are employed.

Each corner-fixture, as will be seen from the several figures of the drawings, is comprised of a triangularly-shaped plate-like body 15, bounded on two sides by the two right-angled or squared

16 and 17, and. the convexly-curved or circular marginal edge 18, forming, preferably, the quadrant of a circle, the ends of the

shown in said Fig. 5 of the drawings, the cor ner portion of the frame-section thus being arranged within the receiving portion or chamber 25 of the fixture 14, the curved flanges 24 forming a rounded finish to the corner, and the holding tongues or lugs 26 lying flat upon the inner and leather-covered faces of the body 2 and the leg portion 3, as clearly illustrated in Figs. 4 and 5. At the same time the leather-covered members or

28 and 29 of the fixture 14, as will be clearly evident. The inlay 11 is now fitted upon the inside of the frame-section in the usual manner, with the rounded or circularly-formed corners 12 of the inlay snugly fitted against the outer faces of the curved members or flanges 24 of the corner-fixtures 14, as clearly shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings, and then secured in position against displacement by means of the pins or rivets 13.

In this manner it will be seen that a cheap, neat, and simply-constructed corner-fixture has been provided which can be readily secured over the corner of the frame-section and serves as a proper protector to prevent the wearing off of the covering at the corners of the frame-section, while at the same time enabling the use of the round-cornered and stronger inlay.

I claim 1. A corner-fixture for a leather-covered bag-frame section, comprising a triangularlyshaped plate-like body formed with downwardly-extending flanges adapted to be fitted over the corner of the frame-section, two of said flanges being adapted to be arranged upon the outer faces of the frame-section and the third flange being adapted to extend across the inner portion of the corner of the frame-section, and retaining-lugs extending from said third flange for securing the corner-fixture in position, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.

2. A corner-fixture for a leather-covered bag-frame section, comprising a triangularlyshaped plate-like body formed with a pair of downwardly-extending straight flanges and an intermediate downwardly-extending and convexly-curved flange, said straight flanges 1 convexly-curved flange, said straight flanges being adapted to be arranged upon the outer faces of the frame-section and said curved flange being adapted to extend across the inner portion of the corner of the frame-section, and means-connected with said curved flange for securing the corner-fixture in position,

substantially as and for the purposes set forth.

4. A corner-fixture for a leather-covered bag-frame section, comprising a triangularlyshaped plate-like body formed with a pair of downwardly-extending straight flanges and an intermediate downwardly-extending and convexly-curved flange, said straight flanges being adapted to be arranged upon the outer faces of the frame-section and said curved flange being adapted to extend across the inner portion of the corner of the frame-section, and retaining-lugs extending from said curved flange for securing the corner-fixture in position, substantially as and for the pur poses set forth.

5. The combination, with a bag-frame sec tion having a right-angled corner, of a corner-fixture fitted over the corner, said fixture comprising a triangularly-shaped plate-like body formed with a pair of downwardly-extending straight flanges arranged about the outer faces of the corner, and an intermediate downwardly-extending and conVexly-curved flange extending across the inner angular part of the corner of the frame-section, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.

6. The combination, with a bag-frame section having a right-angled corner, of a corner-fixture fitted over the corner, said fixture comprising a triangularly-shaped plate-like body formed with a pair of downwardly-extending straight flanges arranged about the outer faces of the corner, and an intermediate downwardly--extending and convexly-curved flange extending across the inner angular part of the corner of the framesection, and means connected with said curved flange in retaining engagement with an inner face portion of the frame-section for securing the corner-fixture in position, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.

7. The combination, with a bag-frame section having a right-angled corner, of a corner-fixture fitted over the corner, said fixture comprising a triangularly-shaped plate-like body formed with a pair of downwardly-extending straight flanges arranged about the outer faces of the corner, and an intermediate downwardly extending and convexlycurved flange extending across the innerangular part of the corner of the frame-section, retaining-lugs extending from said curved flange in retaining engagement with an inner face portion of the frame section for securing the corner-fixture in position, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.

8. The combination, with a bag-frame section having a right-angled corner, of a corner-fixture fitted over the corner, said fixture comprising a triangularly-shaped plate-like body formed with a pair of downwardly-extending straight flanges arranged about the d ownwardly-extending and convexly-curved flange extending across the inner angular part of the corner of the frame-section, and an inlay in said frame-section having a rounded corner registering with the convex flange of the corner-fixture, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.

9. The combination, with a bag-frame section having a right-angled corner, of a corner-fixture fitted over the corner, said fixture comprising a triangularly-shaped plate-like body formed with a pair of downwardly-extending straight flanges arranged about the outer faces of the corner, an intermediate downwardly-extending and convexly-curved flange extending vacross the inner angular part of the corner of the framesection, and an inlay in said frame-section having a rounded corner registering with the convex flange of the corner-fixture, and means connected with said convex flange and extending beneath said inlay for securing the corner-fixture in position, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.

10. The combination with a bag-frame section having a right-angled corner, of a corner-fixture fitted over the corner, said fixture comprising a triangularly-shaped platelike body formed with a pair of downwardlyextending straight flanges arranged about downwardly-extending and convexly-curved flange extending across the inner angular part of the corner of the frame-section, and an inlay in said frame-section having a rounded corner registering with the convex flange of the corner-fixture, and retaininglugs projecting from said convex flange and extending beneath said inlay for securing the corner-fixture in position, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.

The herein-described corner-fixture for a bag-frame section, comprising a triangularly-shaped body-plate having two rightangled straight marginal edges, an intermediate convexly-curved marginal edge, and transversely-extending marginal edge portions connecting the respective ends of said outer faces of the cornerfan intermediatethe outer faces of the corner, an intermediate 4 right-angled straight marginal edges with the respective ends of the curved marginal edge, downwardly-projecting straight marginal edges, and a downwardly-projecting curved flange extending fromvsaid curved marginal edge, all arranged to provide a receiving-chamber formed with open-end portions between the respective flanges, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.

The herein-described corner-fixture for a bag-frame section, comprising a triangularly-shaped plate-like body having two right-angled straight marginal edges, an in termediate convexly-curved marginal edge, and transversely-extending marginal edge portions connecting the respective ends of said right -angled straight marginal edges with the respective ends of the curved marginal edges, downwardly-projecting straight flanges extending from said right-angled straight marginal edges, and a downwardlyprojecting curved flange extending from said curved marginal edge, all arranged to pro vide a receiving-chamber formed with openend portions between the respective flanges, and holding or retaining lugs extending at right angles from the lower marginal edge of said curved flange, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
