This invention relates to improvements in safetypoclrets, and hasvfor its obiect the` provision of a-pocket of this ,charac-ter particularly designed, for Ause in connectiony with a watch to prevent l,accidental or Asurreptitious removal'thereof from the pocket.
Other objects will appear hereinafter. y The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The inventionwill be best. understood by` reference to the laccompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which, Y
Fig. 1, is a fragmentary view. of a garment having a pocket therein, showing my invention applied thereto,
Fig. 2, is a similar view showing the invention in inoperative position, and
Fig. 3, is a sectional view on line 3 Fig. 1.
The construction hereinafter.described is an improvement over that set forth in United States Letters-Patent No; 1,296,168 granted to me March t, l1919, and is de-y signed to greatly simplify the construction shown in said patent, and also lessen the cost of production thereof.
rhe invention may be used in connection with pockets of any garment, such as waistcoats, trousers and the like. As shown in the drawings, 10 represents a garment, in this particular instance, a pair of trousers, such trousers having a pocket 11 of the type ordinarily provided for carrying a watch therein. Such pocket 11 may be provided with an opening' 12 in its outer side, such opening being preferably situated a suitable distance from the upper edge of said side, and offset with respect to a vertical center line extending through said pocket.
Secured to the outer side of the pocket 11, preferably at the edge thereof, above the opening 12, is a depending flap 13, such flap preferably having a male member 14 of a snap fastener secured to its under side in line with and adapted to project through the opening 12, and in operative position to engage a related female member 15 secured to .the inner side of ,thev pocket 11,V thereby Ysiinultaneously closing the ,mouth of the pocket and securing the l'ap'13 in position. y l t As stated, the invention is particularly designed to prevent theft, or ,accidental .renoval of a watch from the pocket, and the embodiment of the invention described is capable of use in several different ways to accomplish this result. `filillie'n swatch, not having a chain `or, fob attached thereto is placed` in the pOClGthe fastener restricts the' mouth of the"pocllret"to such an extentl that the watch cannot pass through theopen- '1 ings lonl each side thereof, and dueto the 4fact that the fastener merelyl divides the m'outh of the pocketlinto smaller openings other and smaller objects maybe inserted into the pocket without interfering with 'the' fastener.v Then the watch is providedwith a fob or chain, as show nV kin Fig. 1, the
chain may extend outwardly through the.
smaller opening fori'ned by the fastening means, thus providing a double lock. If desired, the larger opening formed by the fastening means may be large enough to permit the extraction of the watch there through, in which case the watchl can be eX- tracted, but the chain or fob will remain in the smaller opening thereby preventing complete separation of the watch from the pocket. Also, if desired, instead of passing the chain through the smaller opening, as shown in Fig. l, such chain may extend to the outside of the pocket and laterally beneath the flap 13, which, in operative position, forms a loop between its secured end and the fastener, in this manner also accomplishing a result similar to that just described. g f
"While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification with out depart-ing from. the spirit of the invention. l, therefore, do not wishto be limited to the-precise details of construct-ion set forth, but desire to avail myself of suchv variations and modifications as come within the scope vof the appended claims.
Having described my invention, what l claim as new and desire ,to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. Thev combination withr a garment pocket, of means for securing the mouth of` lil) lee
side of said pocket arranged to engage said 'a movable member secured at the tree edge et the. outer side of said pocket, and having n a fastener thereon, said iastener having a portion extensible throughthe outer side of said pocket, said portion being adapted'to be detachablyifastened to the inner side thereot,'and inv inoperative posit-ion to be removable'trom` the interior of said pocket.
lOl/The combination with a garment pocket, of means for securing the mouth of said pocket together, said means including a 'flap secured to the tree edge of the outer side ot the pocket, at a point nearer to the middle ot the pocket opening than to the ends, the longitudinal axis ot said flap eX- tending transversely of the Apocket opening, said flap having a Vfastening member thereon; and a fastening memberon the inner first named fastening' member.
e. The combination With a garment,
pocket, of means for securing the mouth ot said pocket together, said means consisting of a flap secured to the upper edge of the outer side of said pocket, there being an opening in the outer side ot' said pocket adjacent the end of said flap; and a `fastener 'on said flap having a portion extensible through said opening and engageable with a related fastenerv on the inner side of said pocket and in inoperative position to be yremovable from said opening.
5. The'` combination' with. pocket, of means tor securingthe mouth of said pocket together, said means Consist-V ing et' aliap secured to the outer side ot said pocket, there being an openingin/the outer side of said pocket adjacent the end ot said i'iap; and a fastener moule-tedV on said flap in line V with said opening,4 and havingA a portion extensible through said opening and engageablevvith a relatedfastener on the inner sideot said` pocket, and in inoperative position to be removable from said opening.
ln testimony whereof I have signedmjvl name t0 this 4specification in the presence of tivo subscribing Witnesses.
